I also think you might have missed the meaning of that saying in the military. It goes back to my argument about the difference in snitching and providing information.

Example: Wouldn't you agree that ALL of the military men and women in Iraq right now would want any Iraqi that might know anything of an upcoming insurgent attack, to report it?

I never said I was ridding the world of crime. If I don't want these particular guys in my neighborhood, which I think any person with common sense would feel, then I will report to the police on these guys.

Maybe you are under the false pretense that these guys will recognize you as a "non-snitcher" and therefore you'd be cool with them. So that way when they really like that car you are driving or that watch you have on your wrist and they want it, they wont rob you for it. wrong. They will rob you as quickly as the guy they robbed the night before. you are the one who needs to keep dreaming.

Also, I know a handful of people in the Military, and I know every one of them would disagree with you entirely. So parading the fact you were in the military doesn't help your cause at all

Being that they taught us that in boot, EOD training, and in my command post I'd say the military personel you know are non combat. We have to agree to disagree because i doubt you grew up in the same type of hood as me or even close. You have one vantage point as do I. Although we can play a game to settle our differences. Winner has to agree to snitch/not snitch on any crime within the next year. I can agree to that can you?

Haha, I can't agree to that because as you can see from my rank, I'm not the greatest RISK player #-o And I take real life a lot more serious than a internet game, so if i witnessed a crime I wouldn't let a game dictate if I provided information or not.

About my military friends. One was a marine in Afghanistan and is out now, the other is a reservist currently in Iraq right now. The other 2 haven't seen combat I believe as one is in the Navy and the other Air Force reserve.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. My main point was, if it was just a fence knocked over by some kids or drunk guys messin around then yeah "no snitching". But when it's people on probation, already fleeing from cops, and dumping a gun, then chances are they are up to no good, and I don't believe it matters what "hood" anyone is from, a criminal is a criminal and they should be brought to justice. If you let them intimidate you to the point where you don't report anything then you are copping out to them which is the same thing as copping out to police. These guys aren't gonna help you, so why help them?

So a concerned citizen who wants to prevent future crimes is a bitch? Tell that to victims of rape/murder/mugging. Yeah, as I said before, if you don't snitch on someone and they go on to hurt someone, you're just as responsible as they are. If you can live with that, fine.

The way I view it is that if you don't "snitch" you're really no different from them. Period.

These people are criminals, and I know I wouldn't want them near me. I would do all in my power to help the police to cetch them.

But then again your not in the situation he is. It seems simple when your sitting in your Victorian Mansion in Long Islande, but it's different where what, me worry? is.

I'm not putting you in a category.......I was contrasting the 2 situations without trying to be rasict. All I'm saying is that you can't judge a situation like that. Sure, that seems like the right thing to you and me, but I'm sure there could be some kind of vendetta.

Okay, so, lets see the worst of the situation. I snitch, and the bad guys find out. From there, on of two things can happen. 1. They tell their buddies, and they come and beat me up. Or, B. They GET OFF, and come after me. So they come and beat me up. I call the cops, and have them arrested. This time it's a sure thing they're sent away. A criminal's word against mine?

Either way, they're arrested, and it's one or two less criminals. If the worst happen, I may get hurt. big deal. I've been hurt before.

No one was raped or murdered. Im sure it was 2 kids on probation who had dope ion their system and didnt want to go back to jail. who in their position wouldnt run and break my fence? Everything worked out for everyone. they didnt get caught, i get a new fence, we both get to sleep in our beds and get some p*ssy 2nite. stop being a b*tch

It's not just this situation, it's the concept of no snitching in general. If you don't help get criminals off the streets, they will end up hurting someone. We all know that it's true, and if we really want to better our cities people have to help the police.

You clearly stated that you would still support the no snitching motto if one of your friends or family got mugged. So trying to say it's ok because it was probably just 2 kids on dope doesn't make it better; when you would be OK with your friend or family getting mugged.

No snitching. But then again why would one of my friends or family walk down town known for drugs and what not. the only people getting jacked are the ones who are there for the wrong reason. I dont go near bee hives because i know im going to get stung.

1. You were putting Hayes in a category because you were saying it would be easy for him sitting in a Victorian Mansion when he could very easily be in the same situation.

2. It doesn't just "seem" like the right thing to do to report a crime in his situation, it "IS" the right thing to do in any situation. Not reporting a crime due to the fear of vendetta is you letting yourself be defeated by the criminal, they are influencing your life. Just the same as if you live in fear of being attacked by terrorists and let that fear dictate what you do, instead of living your life the way you want to, then the terrorists have won. (I'm not comparing the two criminals to terrorists directly, just using it as an example.)

Now if whatmeworry had posted his story but instead said, "this is a very rough area and I am in total fear of vendetta from the criminals, so I didn't tell the cops anything" then that would still be in general wrong, but I would at least sympathize with that and understand a little because I don't live in a rough neighborhood so I don't deal with that. But the fact that he proudly didn't help the cops cause "NO SNITCHIN", that shows that he willingly chose to keep criminals on his streets.

So even though we may not live in rough neighborhoods and know his situation, we can still tell him he is wrong for openly supporting criminals because we know that is wrong no matter where you live

This is the way I see it:

1) If you don't believe in "snitching," then you are an anarchist at heart. A government, especially a democracy/republic, does not function very well without good citizens. Being a good citizen, of course, includes many more things than just obeying the laws. Such as voting, going to jury duty, and cooperating with the police. So not helping the police is taking your role out of government, thus you are an anarchist (even if you don't know it yet).

Of course, you can argue for anarchism. I thought The Dispossessed was a great book.

2) You help the police, because you are an archist. Good job, you fall in the mainstream. You get a big star.
