[09-Feb-2008] Database errors

Post by Twill »

During peak hours you may have noticed that we are seeing some rather ugly database errors which are causing some (mostly temporary) problems both with games and in the forum.

We are working to resolve the problem, you will see minor tweaks to the forum which should mostly not effect you too much, but more major works to add power to the database machine are taking longer and are what, in the long run, will dramatically increase capacity on the server.

We are also reducing our active recruiting and advertising programs to slow growth and make sure our current users aren't effected by further increasing load from new users.

In the mean time, try to avoid playing at peak hours (usually mid-afternoon and early evening in North America) to help us spread the load until we can get you the machine power to support all your addictions :)

Thanks for bearing with us here. We are working to fix this as soon as we can.

Have a good one

no

since most people will still only be able to play at the peak hours, it would matter since there are less turns to take at rushhour.. and all other reasosn and stuff

Is there some sort of rough time frame for how long this will take? A couple days? A week? A month?

Years- life?
Knowing CC, that might be the answer.

I have no idea, a week or two to get the raw power up, another week or two of tweaking...or maybe a month or two...I really don't know until I can talk to Lack in more detail.

So Lack has checked in and reset the server. Hopefully this'll fix things. Please report in this Bug thread if you continue to see problems.

Sadly, I wouldn't plan on it anytime soon. Wicked says he's on vacation, which who knows how long that is?? Then he will have to identify the bugs that caused it to fail last week. Then he will have to figure out how to fix said bugs.

By the way, could it have been some residual problems from that failed upgrade that caused those PM bugs and others???

More than likely to help with the server problems we've been experiencing.

The forums were purposely taken down because the recent database issues were killing the site during peak times. By taking the forums offline, it allowed us more "room" for the games, so games could stay active during peak times. It was a temporary bandaid until Lack can get on with a hopefully better fix.
