synchronising turns...
In one of my games, for the first time, i synchronised my turn so that I could effectively take 2 turns in a row, and received negative feedback for it. My attitiude towards synchronising is that it's fair play, and i dont mind people doing it to me.. Is it fair play, or cheating, what do you think???

What do you mean, you waited until just before the end of 24 hours in a free style game? I think that is somewhat cheating in some instances if thats what you did. If its only 2 players left and you need to act first then you are actually cheating the other player out of a turn and that isnt right IMO
That's awfully cheap. You legally won the game, but I wouldn't call it "fair and square". In general, if you got negative feedback then you deserve it. You're not going to receive any punishments, but people tend to read what negative feedback people have received, and some will avoid you if they don't want to play against someone who does what you did.
I was a major back when 1600 was major. Now that I'm back, I get to easily win a bunch of games to get my rank. Thank the 'tards here who suck at this game.

I agree that it's a very cheap and pathetic way to win. I lost a game on the North America map where I had him cornered into Southern Greenland and I had the rest of the map. He pulled the crap that you are talking about and won the game on his 2nd turn. If people are going to start doing this, I'll ignore them first and then request that Lack put some sort of time limit on the ban against double turns so that when it gets down to 2 players, you have say 5 hours that you can't play before the other player. After that, it's fair game.

That's why I play 10 matches at a time. It helps if you're premium.

Why is it cheating? If the game allows it then it is not cheating.
If you are the last person playing in a round in freestyle you can play your net turn right after the first person plays in the next round. So why wait the 24 hours?
The only way to counter that stratagy some is the first person should delay playing for about an hour. Unless of course you are waiting by your computer all day.

When a freestyle game round officially runs out of time because someone didn't do/finish their turn, a new round starts where anyone can start.
To abuse the system a player simply has to start their turn at the very end of the 24 hours. If the other player went last the previous turn, as you said they are unable to do their turn until someone else does a turn, so unless they show up too at that moment they miss their turn.

Completely disagree. If you don't like it, don't play Freestyle. Turn syncing is one of the things that make Freestyle what it is.Phobia wrote:its not cheating, but its scum. you should be playing your turns when you log on. this is why i keep with sequential games
negative feedback is kinda deserved here, if the other player disagreed with it

I don't think the game is designed so that you take away the other person's ability to play. Do what you have to in order to win, but both players should have a shot at playing.
If I'm in a game with someone can I just go over to their house and unplug their computer so they can't take any of their turns? Because in effect that's all your'e doing with this "strategy". It's allowed because of the way the game is set up, but its a scum move.

thats completely ridiculous. turn syncing isnt what makes freestyle what it is.......just the fact that u dont have to wait till everyone takes their 24 hour time limit makes it good.....turn syncing is completely low and pathetic. i find that it is just like bonus cards.......sometimes people just get lucky and are able to come out of the corner and win cuz of cards....it requirs little skill. just like syncing.......its cheap.

I was the person who he cheated against to win.
The 24 hour limit is in place because its an online multiplayer game. The 24 hour limit is there to keep games moving. Its not a tactic or a strategy of the game to deny another player a turn.
Someone said that War is not fair. Well if you want to get picky, how many wars have existed where 1 side attacks and then waits for the enemy to attack them back before they order another strike.
A few people on here have said its wrong and its scum. SPOT ON!! He couldn't win fair and square so he had to manipulate the game set up to his advantage.
Some people have also said I can just play sequential. Well is it not possible to play both without have to encounter this cheating tactic.
I dont want to play with any scumbag who would do this to win.

I used to think that way - that turn syncing was just a bad byproduct of a comprimise for virtual play, and quickly saw the possible exploits, and have it used against me several times. So I stopped playing freestyle. I didn't have the time to take advantage of the strategies that could occur in freestyle play. As much as I'm at the computer, I'm not at the computer that much.
Freestyle play is extraordinarily easy to exploit, and it's not like traditional Risk at all. But... it's not like traditional Risk, and if you got rid of it, you'd get rid of something sort of unique.
A third gameplay style - like freestyle, but the first one to take their turn "locks" the game so nobody else can act might strike a better comprimise, but it would be a *different* game.
