ive played alot of strategy games, but my favorite is age of empires rise of rome, this game just kicked ass. later builds of the game were too clunky and craptastic... and other games like Rise of Nations lose the simplicity that ror had..

Well, I like Axis & Allies, Samurai Swords, and most other boardgame strategy games of the like (kinda obvious, given the site we're on, but still). As far as video games go, both Starcraft and Command & Conquer: Red Alert are still favorites of mine. Among more recent games, I'd have to say the Advance Wars series is by far a favorite of mine. Plus the Civilization series as well... and a honorable mention to an OLD NES strategy game, Godzilla II (defend Tokyo against Godzilla, what's not to like?!)
And yes, chess is very good too.

Hmmmm..... this is could be one long ass list. Ok. Dune 2000, Emperor Battle for Dune, Comand & Conquer (The originals), The expansion to the original, Red Alert, the two expansions (Aftermath and Counterstrike), Red Alert 2 and the expansion Yuri's Revenge, Star Craft and BrooWar, the WarCraft Series, Axis & Allies (one of the best RTS in my opinion), Myth II (this game is hard as hell but I love it anyway), both Advanced Wars, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, Command & Conquer Tiberiun Sun and the expansion FireStorm, Command & Conquer Generals and that expansion Zero Hour, and I'll stop there with RTS strat games. Now if we add first person shooters that use strat, well that opens a whole new slew of games. But yes, I am a VERY big fan of RTS games.
Oh and btw yal should get Myth II, best of the Myth games. Good game for those of your who've mastered the other games.

I'd stay Warcraft 3, partially strategy.
Civilization great game, but I have to say the computer game is better than the board game.
Axis & Allies is amazing.
Obviously we all play Risk.
Age of Empires, another computer game.
As for online games, Fall of Empires, check it out you may like it.

Blades will bleed. Shields will shatter. But as the light fades, will the hero rise again or will darkness reign?

Chess is probably a big one. I used to play Rise of Nations, C&Cs, and Starcraft when I was in High School. I only played the single player option of those games though, mostly because I was on 56k and the other because I was never that good :-p. Personally I like the turn based approach towards strategy gaming. Turn based is a true battle of strategies rather than management that most RTS's are about.

A fun, fourm based turn based set of games ranging from modern war, world war one, two, and even some silly ones like Lore.
Think of it as risk, but you buy different types of units and write actual plans when you invade other countries.

Played the first FE to actually be ported to GBA (think it's like... 6 or 7 in Japan). Not bad, loved the large variety of classes and promoted classes... so cool and y (especially Lyn; her upgrade is uber- badassness). Earlier missions are not quite so fun, but once you get promotes, gets just plain awesome.
