Newbie Mode *Rejected*
when a person first joins CC could the be a option to begin with were they play but it does not count toward the score/game count
this could either be turned of by the player or last a certain amount of time
i think this would be useful because if you have not played before and you start playing you might not understand the rules and therefore not play to their highest possible level and lose points to begin with when they are not practiced at playing it.
i know when i started although i had played the board game i found this completely different and to begin with i lost quite a few points that could have been avoided

I'm with Tel on this one. For those completely unfamiliar with Risk, i think a Newbie mode could exist. To be turned off at the player's discretion or after 10 games. Once it's off, it can never be turned back on.
Kinda like MUDs in a way. Once you reach level 5 or 10, all your newbie equipment goes away, and you start dealing with the game proper.

I think the initial points loss is just a part of the game...we all had to deal with it...
besides...as wacicha pointed out...
as your skill level increases and you start to win games...the lower you've sunk, the faster you rise because you get more points per win...
just deal with the system the way it is...
if someone is in n00b mode, the people they play won't get the points that they deserve for winning the game...it'll just make the whole thing a lot more complicated...

I'd have to agree with nearly everyone else in this thread. It causes more problems then it could potentially fix.
And as cahoots said...losing is a part of the game. I won my very first game, and then had a horrible streak going down into 800's, but now I'm hovering around 1200. It just takes time.

Yeah very few things in life give you a dress rehearsal... why should CC? I'm very new myself. i have only completed 4 games and lost all of them.. Well except a doubles game but still I lost! And my points went, as they should, to the Victor. Falling down is part of learning to stand... You gots to scrape your knees up so you know not to fall any more!!!

Yup. True. Life isn’t always an easy and happy thing all the time. I remember when I was growing up, when I was around 9, 10 my six year older cousin used to play football with me. Sometimes he let a friend in and had me play both him and his friend in their garden. They weren’t that concerned with the ball though. They just kicked me down for the fun of it. Then laughed at me. But I got up and continued playing. Just for them to kick me down again. They also teamed up on me playing cowboys and Indians. I always was made to be the Indian. And while they had the two guns I had to do with a small stick. But I took it. Made me stronger. Then when I turned 18 I bought a gun and settled all old scores once and for all. That’s life. They kicked me down, tried to hold me down. But I bounced up like Rocky Balboa.
And what about us who enjoy beating the shit out of the newbies in order to get some easy points? Would we not receive any points during that proposed trial period? Man, that would suck. Taking points from newbies is my bread and butter here in CC...

I like the Idea, I think we should be allowed to set up games that don't count toward our scores. So what if you don't loose points, other people don't HAVE to join your points game after you master a map.
In my circle of co-workers, we don't play each other because people complain about loosing points. A friendly game without points would be awesome!
Thanks!
