I want to confirm that you guys are only talking about play money because any kind of online gambling involving real money would be highly illegal and might subject the site to all kind of liability.

I think it would be a mistake to permit any kind of discussion of gambling with real money on an open forum.

This might sound a little anal, and there is a certain amount of tongue in cheekiness..(like the visual?..lol), involved here, but I'd hate to see a constant barrage of posts involving gambling with real money in the OPEN.......

That might be very, bery, bad for business....

There are many discussions on "open forums" that are highly questionable, any talk of betting/gambiling done should not be considered inappropriate. Furthermore, the placing of bets would be between players only, transactions would be done on this site and not connected to CC.

Hmmm... that's an interesting point you bring up, Scarus. But what makes it illegal?

IANAL, but I would think that CC shouldn't be held responsible if people organize their own cash games independently, even if they use the forum to facilitate them. CC doesn't see the money and for all I know that $100 game Owl and friends set up was all talk.

To take it further, a group of people could use any forum to plan a cash game. Do petlovers.com or goodrecipes.com have to make sure nobody uses their forum to plan cash games on CC?

Is it even illegal for a group of people to organize their own cash game over the internet? What if the game is held in Owl's basement but they discuss it here?

Concerning CC's responsibility for people discussing gambling on CC, I would also think that Quebec & Canadian laws should apply, since that is where this website is based.

One thing I've noticed with Poker is that many people play very differently when real money is involved... even if it's only nickels!

So this makes me wonder if the same thing would happen here? Would the potential to win/lose even a small amount of money cause people to play smarter?
One thing is for sure, there wouldn't be many deadbeats!

It would be cool if it could be done within CC....
.....Lack could rake 5 - 10% of the wagers
..........and before long there'd be betting odds on different games,
...............and then mob payoffs to throw games,
....................and then hackers manuipulating the starting positions & dice rolls,
and.... and........ and.............

Good CYA Scarus...LOL!!

Lack, of course all talk of actual wagering is hypothetical and nothing illegal would ever be considered! Thanks for your input......CC has made me a happy guy......

Different play maybe but smarter.... rarely
Thus the term "Dead money"

I don't know about legalities but how many parents and such keep younger ones away once they see there is gambling at this site???

Either way if it's for a little money... I'm in!

Although i like this idea as it would create a fairly tense game, there would need to be strict moderation - disputes here are bad enough, without accounts of people cheating money out of each other.

Thinking more realistically, imagine a situation where a player enters the tourney you sugested with multiple accunts (all on different IPs and with "friends" paypal accounts etc etc) he would presumably go undetected as it would not matter which account won he money. Outside collaboration would be imposible to stop

A more realistic tourney would be one in which all players chiped in a small amount of money, paid to a neutral mod (not wicked lol...ahem) - actually lack woud be better. The winner of the tourney could then win premium as it WOULD matter which account won) this would greatly reduce the chance of multiing and any cases of multiing could be detected in the usual way

FYI, for those of you who don't read the guidelines, and/or don't realize this is an old thread, the only gambling allowed on CC is deciding whether to roll the dice that one more time...lol.
