I once suggested the reverse -- that they offer an option "flame games" for those who DO like this sort of thing. (swearing, back-biting, etc.) The problem with the positive option -- a no swearing game option, is two-fold. First a group of individuals are going to see this as a prime invitation to violate it... to use as much foul language as they can. Immature, granted, but those are the ones causing the issue to begin with. A Flame game option would do the reverse, allow those who want that to find it and allow the rest of us to (hopefully) avoid it.
However, my idea was rejected.

You can use caps lock in game chat too.

I don't think anyone needs lessons in parenting from Conquer Club Forum posters - I know I certainly don't. Obviously parents should monitor their kids activities.
The point is that vulgarity just makes this place a less pleasant one to be, for kids and grownups alike. It is a place to play strategy games, and excels in that regard. It is not a place to flaunt one's freedom of speech to the detriment of others. I play on other multiplayer sites that have vulgarity filters and everyone still seems to be able to get their points made and frustration vented. It doesn't hurt anyone's reason for coming here to put filters in place. But not having them in place will keep some away, or leave them with distaste.

Well, theres no way around this no matter what.
I don't think you should blank out the words because then people more often will try to work around it by using symbols.
I'm 16 years old, and I don't often swear on this site, but I must admit I have. I have used the usual swear words, but nothing "THAT" offense I don't think.
I will cut down on my swearing, because I understand there are young young kids on this site, and swearing at the age of 9 is terrible. Makes their parents and family look bad.

What harm would come of blanking out the offensive words? I think none, and yet there are obvious benefits.
Yes there are ways round it, and if ppl are determined to swear then they will find a way, but the bulk of the bad language would be stopped. Other websites use it, so it must work.
I believe that CC are losing potential members by ppl being put off by some of the language that is flying around on the site, so it would also be in their interest to make the site cleaner.
In summary I think it is down to what type of site CC wants to run. They can either choose a strictly adults only site where anything goes, or a site for all the family where there is a friendlier environment for adults to enjoy playing and also where kids can learn whilst having fun.
I vote for the latter.

Thats a load of excuse me bullshit! Conquer club doesnt want to trouble its self with the extra work load it would take in keeping this place clean. I work for a poker site which probably has alot more people with alot more to lose than this ite. i have seen people lose GBP50,000 in a matter of minutes!! They swear in the chat and they get a ban!! Simple as and very effective!??!
Why cant CC do the same ??

It seems the majority of our members at Conquer Club are happy with its current atmosphere. It's fun, competitive, and sometimes a little in your face.
And if that doesn't suit some people, we've given them the tools to change the atmosphere to fit them. It seems we are catering to our majority right now. Perhaps if the majority were on the otherside, we'd be having these conversations with people who think the site is too clean. It goes both ways.

Furthermore, i have been in customer services for over 5 years now. I will say that for every customer that complains, 10 dont!!! So maybe your losing customer's you dont even know about coz of a silly little thing like blanking out swear words!! At least CC could show its making an effort in blanking out rude words in the game chat.
I for one find it hard to hold back from swearing and after words I feel regret for using language in that way.

Is it out of our league to create an optional filter? I bet flame wars would happily make a list for us to put into it (we can trick them into not realizing they are helping too, make a swear contest or something).
Then you could turn swear filter on and off in my settings and the words would black box?

Warning: You may be reading a really old topic.

I vote that 'pompous' be on the list.

I prefer not to deal with swearing, but I honestly only banned about 3 people for it. .. and I certainly view it as a personal choice option.
There are two big problems here . First, just what is a swear word. Remember, this is an INTERNATIONAL site, with folks of many religions, cultures and philosophies. It is quite arrogant to assume that any one list will cut out offense. Many words I , as a USA native, would not find offensive would be quite so to even a British native. In many cultures words such as sh*t and G*d are simply normal language. Are they to be banned for that?
The real truth is that if someone wants to be offensive, a creative and intelligent person can quite easily do so without resorting to "bad" language .. at least in one's own culture. AND, you might offend somone else unkowingly by using what you consider innocent language. How many of us, even those who are Islamic would truly be offended, for example, by a teddy bear named "Mohammed"? Yet, a lady was condemned to death (later reprieved) for just that.
Granted, there is quite a ways from saying "let's exclude words that rhyme with duck" to condemning someone to death ... or is there? First it is language, then simply ideas that you dislike. In many communities, we are already there.
I say let those who want to swear do so ... they reveal themselves for the lack-wits they are wthout any help.
As for kids -- if you truly believe your kids will be so severely damaged, then go through and put those who swear on your children's ignore lists. Check folks out before you let your kids join games, etc. Of course, that takes a little work, but your values are not those of everyone else. Teaching and protection your kids is YOUR job, not anyone else's.
Again, I myself do not swear and prefer not to deal with it, but that is a very personal choice. I keep it out of my house, but not the world at large.

Coleman, in response to your bistish twattishness and general tomfoolery, on behalf of the Order of Pleasantness I am placing you under suspicion of bisticity.
You do not have to say anything in your defense, but anything you do say will no doubt make you look like a ponce.

Everyone is offended by different things.
Some people are offended by swearing, apparently others are not, but ppl here just seem to do it regardless of whether they might offend or not.
If I did or said things that some people were offended by, then I would stop as it is not my intention to do offend anyone.
If ppl are telling me that as this is only a website we shouldn't try and stop ppl hurling abuse at others then this is a far bigger problem than I imagined. If you did it in the street then someone would help, so why is this any different?
If ppl are comfortable with being called a c or told to f off then just make filtering out bad language an option. Every1 will be happy then.
