I'v started a couple of good tournaments, but not that many people have joined them and they had to been abandoned. what do you all think is the best way to get people to join your tuny.

maybe people are just afraid of your bad-assed-ness... why join a tournament if you know there is little to no chance of winning? i suggest dropping a few games intentionally, so people stop passing out at their laptops or desktops when they simply SEE your name attached to a game or tournament. i know that as soon as i log in, the first thing i do is check to see if you are online. if you are, i sign out, and lock all the doors to my home before taking a long walk to avoid you. you are just THAT good.-0

You've played 483 games - invite some of the people that you've played with/against.

If they remember you, and enjoyed the game, they're more likely to join.

I think that's what he means by a reputation.

That, and your tournaments might not be that interesting...

Also you can do it by working on someone elses rep. Ask a couple of respected names do the tourney with you. Then you associate your name with their name and you get players from both player pools.

A lot of it has to do with the formats an organizer chooses, the types of games, settings, etc. Also, the first post in a thread can make all the difference in the world in getting players to sign up.

Be patient when waiting on signups as well. If things are going slow, do not just abandon the tournament, as this will only harm your "rep."

An ad in the Newsletter never hurts either.
