Cybernations - Free on-line game.
http://www.cybernations.net/default.asp
This is a free broswer text-based nation simulator with a fantastic community of around 30, 000 people.
You only need around 5 minutes a day to maintain a nation effectively. The different systems of which you can occupy yourself with is your nations economy, technology and military.
The staple of this game are alliances. Basically like clans, in which mutal defense, aid, and community is provided to enhance the gaming experience.
There's a rich political tapestry within the game with many off-site forums for each respective alliances. You can very easily engross yourself into the political enviornment and community. You can frequent the main cybernations forums (found here: http://forums.cybernations.net/index.php?act=idx) to get a taste for the political climate: massive alliance wars, coup d'etats, esponoige, military blocs and all the drama you could ever want.
I'm in a brand new alliance founded on new years by very experienced and smart cybernations players called the Tyberion Covenant.
We're offering the most comprehensive academy ever made (you'll learn everything you want about the game in a week, about a half hour a day at most. it won't be easy, but it's more then worth it). There is also a strong developmental aid program (build your nation)
We have secured a protectorate agreement from the most powerful alliance in the game, and we have a grand vision of growth and prosperity.
Our forum link is here: http://tyberia.net/index.php and our irc channel is #tyberia on coldfront (don't worry there's detailed instructions on how to set up IRC and get to our channel on our forum).
If you're interested, just register an account and fill out an application in the gate way and you'll be given further instructions. My name in game and on the forums is: Black Death, so you can say that I sent you. I'll be sure to greet each and every one of you who apply. It would be cool if we could get a large base of CC players, so when we hang out in IRC we can set up CC games.
But hey, if you don't want to join my alliance, I encourage you to make a nation and play this game any way, it has provided me with endless entertainment.
p.s. i'm not affiliated with this site, just want to increase it's community.

No, unlike others. Honest opinion, you won't have a good experience there unless you are on a side that I do not wish to mention
Most of the fun is emerging yourself in the community. I haven't been on the "winning" side all the time, actually most of the time I was on the other side. But it was still quite fun.
I sense sour grapes / indivdual bad experience. I don't think it's fair to generalize so broadly. But you're entitled to your opinon.

Ah thats where the problem lies. The community isn't worth a cent, for want of better words. Moderation isn't good either (biased in other words), forum trolls everywhere. It wasn't good in the past, it won't become better in the future. This hasn't only been my experience but countless others.
Anyway, I do not wish to turn this into a flaming thread, so this will be my last post in this thread. Good luck if you going to play it!

I've been playing CN for about two years now, haven't done much lately with it though.
I was gangbanged by NPO early on
I then ended up in their alliance, then got kicked out for inactivity and went on over to the Random Insanity Alliance <<
Also, ohshi- that's where I met my boyfriend

Everything confuses and enrages me! Raaaargh

Sounds interesting. When I have time I guess.

Don't join unless you want to spend hours of time on two other forums, unless you are set in peaceful mod. Building nation is quick and easy, the hard part is the alliances. You have to go to your alliance forum to find out what's going on. and then go to the CN forum to get any news that might be happening with your alliance that your leader's don't want you to know about. 10 minutes for your own nations, 1-2 hours just to keep pace with everythign happening.

You're right about that except, I plan to have a newsletter sent to every member who subscribes.
This way you have the choice of being a casual gamer, getting the highlights, or spending a lot of time on the forums.
