Great tourny .. lets do it again

Post by wpg27offsuit »

Great tourny - the people in my division played well.. were VERY tough opponents... great sports - the format was nice - I think the changes outlines will make for a better "version 2" of the tourny..

Count me in...

Hmmmm......I would have to give some more thought into giving a commitment to that many games at a time in March, but I do like the new format. I wonder if I would like to play the original format a little more than the new one though. I enjoyed the 3456 League immensely and thought it only need a few changes to make it really shine.

I'd like to see what everyone else has to say first before making a final decision I think.

If you tweeked the points a little it may be better
You Have
8p: 15/12/9/7/5/3/1/0
7p: 12/10/7/5/3/1/0
6p: 10/7/5/3/1/0
5p: 9/7/4/1/0
4p: 8/5/1/0
3p: 6/3/0
2p: 4/0

where if a winner got 2 points per player in a game it would even out and due to the earlier rounds in the larger games anyone can be eliminated before any real series game plays come in, should not get as many points

look as these to consider-
8p: 16/12/8/6/3/2/1/0
7p: 14/10/7/3/2/1/0
6p: 12/9/6/2/1/0
5p: 10/7/3/1/0
4p: 8/5/1/0
3p: 6/3/0
2p: 4/0

I really liked this league, the games were all pretty hotly contested and the format was great.

My only suggestion is to perhaps stagger the games a bit, but I believe this was discussed already.

Fantastic tournament pjdonald. The finals have been well played by all, challenging and very appropriately frustrating, LOL. :D

I'd like to play so long as the the tournament avoided the dreaded World 2.1 map. If any of you wonder why here is the answer

Yes it is a game from the 3456 league

There are 5 games left

Mongol
Rail USA
Merchants
Tamriel
Classic - like that's a sufficient description. 1363752

I'll post my analysis on the good faith that if dcc reads it he won't act in bad faith in the Mongol game.

I think he and I are the only ones with a chance to win the league. But my chance is pretty remote. He has 84 points, with 4 more guaranteed, which will get him to 88. I have 69, and can get a maximum of 92. Godd can max at 79. I didn't calc anyone else's.

Since I have virtually no shot in 1 of my 3 remaining games (Tamriel), and only a faint shot in another (Classic), its almost time to crown dcc the champ.

I don't think I could hurt you in that game even if I wanted to. In fact if I suicided into you, it might just prompt the other two to hit each other and help you overall. :D

However, this brings up an excellent question of sportsmanship. In a tournament like this, should players play each game logically for it's own sake, or consider the standings when deciding whom to attack?

I have played each game as a seperate battle and have not targeted an opponent based on the overall standings. At one point I became upset with Godd because he was hammering me in several games. He explained that he had to because I had taken a lead in the overall standings and he needed to make up points by making sure I was eliminated before him. I had fogotten the point situation at the time and understand why he did it, though I disagree with that strategy.

I feel the goal should be to win each individual game, not finished 2nd to another's 3rd. This is just something to think about as you set up the next tournament. With my way of thinking the point differential should be higher between 1st and 2nd to encourage players that the win is how they advance to the final or win the tournament.

Do you have a list of standings in terms of wins? Are the results the same?

(LOL, I just realized this is very similar to the argument in NASCAR standings)

This is a very interesting question as I set up the 2-8 League. You lay out the argument very well for concentrating the points at the top. The counter-argument is to draw out the competition, give everyone a chance to stay alive longer, and reduce the probability of dropouts.

Everyone who advanced to the finals had the most wins in Round 1. You have the most wins in the finals. Optimus Prime is the only one who moved up significantly without a corresponding win total. He finished 2nd in points but 5th in wins.

The dropout argument is not very compelling to me, but 3456 worked pretty well with that structure.
