From my experience, not joining other clans is a pretty standard rule in most clans. The exception to this is normally if you want to play a game that is not supported by the clan.

I may be operating under a misconception. When players speak of a game being realtime, I am assuming that they are meaning that the game type is freestyle rather than sequential. Am I mistaken?

If they are playing within the rules and not missing their turns, then it seems to be unfair to give them negative feedback for it. Freestyle just shortens the maximum duration for the rounds to twenty-four hours and lets people go when they have time.
