The heartbeat is a good feature because it makes for very fast refreshes, but it also resets your selections in the drop down menus (how many armies to advance/deploy and what territory to attack/deploy on). Several times after I had selected what territory to ...

It sounds like an awesome idea Taranwandrer. Your idea about losing an army if you pass through a river is perfect. There are way too many boring maps that LIMIT STRATEGY and make the whole game reliant on dice...i.e. I don't have a chance!
