Hey oaktown, this is the first time i've logged on to cc in many months, apologies to you (and also keyogi) for not responding to the PMs you sent a while back.

Thought I'd let you know here that I have no objection to you taking over this project, and I hope it works out well for you.

I'll ...

I think the new one (4th March update) is absolutely excellent :D - far better than the 27 feb one showing at the start of the thread. i think you've finally found the wall graphic you've been searching for for so long - nice work guiscard.

I still really like this idea, but i'm not a big fan of the newest look. Are you planning to keep the dark grey background in place of the nice colourful graphic you had in the first version? i hope not, as it looked really nice before.

i'm also not keen on the big table on the left showing no ...

Oaktown thanks for bumping this thread, i appreciate it. and thanks to everyone for your input .

I'm coming to the end of a major year-long project at uni, which is monopolising all my time at the moment, but i'll start working on a big update soon, incorporating a lot of the ideas put forward ...

interesting idea... but the problem is that if the river doesn't go to the sea it'll look really weird - just a line of river in the middle of the continent. but if it goes to the sea then it blocks off onngt-henan & khanbaliq-henan ..... unless there can be bridges?

in general i don't like maps that are weird concepts like this (i.e. CCU-type maps), but this one is superb. i really like it, looking forward to seeing it progress. :D

i think the wall's making good progress. it seems to be a surprisingly tricky graphic to get right, but i think it'll be worth all this nitpicking in the end.

i think having stretches of wall with towers interspersed is a good idea, but as keyogi has said, the arial view doesn't fit with the ...

Re: EQUAL RIGHT FOR ALL MAP AUTHORS

may i ask how old you are?

I'd really love to know the answer to this qwert!

I've got to say you're the most unbelievably petulant person I've ever come across, but I confess I absolutely love reading your posts. Your WW2 map thread is one of the most entertaining, and most absurd, things I ...

While we're mentioning these things, Essex lies on the coast. The county labelled Essex is clearly Cambridgeshire.

As everyone says though, it's not that important - but it's something else worth changing if there's ever going to be an update.

Great map, one of my favourites.

Version 2.2:

Background lightened.
Font changed. Some people liked it, some people hated it. Overall I think most people found it hard to read, so thought I'd try a change - what does everyone think?
Indian Ocean sea monster added.

okay here's an update. i think i've addressed a lot of the comments. as regards the colours, the atlantic was actually supposed to be in 2 tones of blue in the last version, but evidently only balsiefen and i could see this! in retrospect, i concede it was pretty grey.

in the new version i've ...

Marv you said originally "Werent Keraits and Khanbaliq supposed to be part of the new "Jin" area? That would be perfect!" They are now part of it, and the sea route is gone. I don't see what else can be done to stop jin being "too powerful"? I really think it should be left as it is.

Regarding ...

i agree with gavin and disagree with qwert about the names being very close to the army spots - this looks great.

is the impassable between karakorum/onggt & yugor supposed to be the great wall of china, as it was in earlier versions of this map? if so i'm not sure abou the graphics. in fact i ...

Regarding the sea colours, I was aiming for the sort of colours used in nautical maps from the age of sail era. The colours are based on those in the following images:

This is the new version, now fully based on an old-fashioned looking sea map:

Oaktown, i was giving some thought to your earlier post

Seems like this map would be best served by taking full advantage of the nautical theme, and making it look like an old sea chart or pirate map. You know, Spanish galleons, sea monsters, skull and cross bones, crap like that. I'd love to ...

Okay the poll shows almost a 3-1 preference for a land-based split over a sea-based one. I agree this is the way forward.

However, I'm in agreement with oaktown in his last post. While the atlantic split (v1.0) is not appropriate for all the reasons previously listed by sully & others, the ...

i love all the suggestions that have been brought up for quirky feautures like the bermuda triangle, and stylistic ones like an old maritime map look.

I've created a preliminary version similar to the mock-up sully did yesterday. What does everyone think? I'm quite undecided at this point, though probably leaning toward the mid-africa split (v1.1).... i'll be interested in the results of the poll.

Once this major issue is sorted we can begin ...

thanks for the feedback everyone. many of the points raised were things i'd also wondered about while producing the map, which was nicew to see.

the main one is clearly where to divide the map. i think there's a good case for splitting the map as sully suggested above, but this map may be hard to ...
