Re: Do you think that YOUR rank is a good measure of your skill?
Having neither clickable maps nor scripts, I invariably lose in the speed/freestyle games.
If I were to stick with only sequential (even casual/freestyle seems a bit wild), my rank would probably hover around upper sgt or lower lt.
I have _never_ won in speed/freestyle. They're a blast though.

I've seen this with non-members, too. You start a game, and they join. If you're not there in real-time; and instead do a turn or two per day, some of them get nasty.

The Arms Race! board is one of the best on this site.
Most games on this map are with fog of war on.
In any event, it seems to me that you have to move fast in that game. Everyone is moving fast.

It's the wins where I've got to play my best to seal the deal; knowing afterwards that any mistakes would have meant failure.
If the whole thing is easy, and a couple of 'mulligans' are allowed by circumstance along the way, it's not as satisfying.

Knowing that the attacker has a slight edge in combat; a player should probably attempt to arrange all of their major battles as attacks.
You don't want to be caught defending in a big battle.
Over time, paying attention to this slight attacker's advantage; it could produce more wins for a player.

I went from really liking this map, to not wanting to play it. The colors are all washed out. There is little contrast between the lettering and the background. The entire thing is 'whitish.'

These are my observations from playing some sequential games:
At the drop, you want to secure any easy territory grouping bonuses, and leave the ones filled with neutrals alone. Don't expose too many 1-army territories to your opponent.

Is it just my monitor or is this map, 'washed out?'
Is there a problem with the label "Oxfordshire" in the attack/reinforce lists, versus "Oxon" on the mapboard?
I liked the old map. This map is not an improvement; not on my monitor.

Well, the reinforcements are dependent on the drop and the attack results.
Say I have an initial drop which includes Frisange, Bous, Bourlingser, and Cappellen.

It's a bit more complicated than tic-tac-toe.
There _is_ a tremendous amount of luck. I routinely beat higher ranks, and lose to lower ranks; often based upon the initial drop and a couple of small auto-battles.

I've found that, whenever posting 20 or 30 of these games, they usually fill up within minutes. With the small battles in each game, and playing several of them simultaneously, you can witness large fluxuations as the dice go for and against.

I've played about 160 of these (finished) so far, and have won around 95 of them. That's about 59%. I don't know if that makes me any kind of expert, but here are some of my observations so far.

Another thing which could be done to speed up the 5-minute game would be to kick deadbeats out of the game for missing a single turn.
I like the idea for a 2-minute setting.

It seems many if not most of the Feudal War games are played with fog of war. If you're playing with fow, you want to watch the game log, and see how much fighting is going on.

For simple maps, Doodle Earth and Luxembourg are great for quick games; either 2 or 8-player.
The two-player is like a microcosm of two players slugging it out over a portion of a larger map.
The 8-player is a quick free for all. There's no room for 8 players on these maps!

You don't want to make those kinds of attacks unless you have to.
3:1 is the attack you want.
So you want to have at least 4 armies on the attacking territory.
Then look for a weak neighbor.
The 2:1, 2:2, 1:1, 1:2 attacks aren't the kind you want to make unless the situation is dire.

So the idea is that there might be more armies on the board at the beginning, rather than the end. The way it's set up... with so many of the new production arriving scattered all over the map, the player has to use reinforcements to put an attack together for round 2.
