Re: greatist musicians of rock.

you say individuals, but you list bands!
are you saying that every member of each of the bands listed is a great musician?
I'm confused!

some people might say that Ringo Starr was the best drummer in the world, but I'd say he wasn't even the best drummer in The Beatles!

Re: I Want To Break Free

i remember when this song (and video) first came out in the mid eighties - it caused such a fuss in the good old liberal USA - here's a quote from wikipedia -

According to Brian May the video ruined the band in America, where many people - unlike the case in the UK - interpreted the video as an ...

Re: al qaeda's christmas surprise

Al Qaeda destroy their weapons and denounce violence to become a peaceful protest organisation. Having realised that having educated mothers is the best way forward in modern society, they peacefully protest for women's rights in various middle-eastern countries.

Now that's what I call an Al Qaeda ...

unlike the cosmic microwave background, the quantum fluctuations within space cannot be detected, therefore they cannot be mapped. their presence is only inferable from the laws of quantum mechanics and as a workable explanation for the structure of the universe.

the COBE explorer mapped the ...

hi Jehan -
i'm glad i was able to clarify things a bit - and your description of the expanding universe as a stretching 4d plane sounds spot on. in fact, the physicist. martin weiner, describes the expansion of the universe as the stretching of time. ie it takes more time to travel to other ...

i'm sorry fireedud -
i know my last post used a cheesy analogy, skipped over the physics and made some wild generalizations -
but at least i put some thought into it!

so think on these -
who regards space as 'nothingness'?
is space really 'nothingness'. or does it contain things?
why are ...

hi jehan -
rushed my last post - so i might add, it would also help to use the term 'increase' rather than 'expand' in regards to dimensions - even if it is referring to something. things expand and, strictly speaking, dimensions do not - but they have values that may change.

space (the final ...

hi jehan -
your definition of dimensions needs clarifying - foremost, dimension is a direction. sure you can add a value to it to make it more meaningful, but what's more important is that dimensions are a property of things (space-time, my head etc) they do not exist on their own, they must refer ...

the name football is derived from the sport of rugby football - which has a lot more similarities to american football than it does to association football.

soccer is most probably a european term - either a shortening of the word association or from the latin for shoes - succos

hi jehan -
your confusion lies in your use of the wrong terminology -
the universe is is known to be expanding because we continue to observe a regular increase in each of its spacial dimensions.
in the same way that i have expanded since being a baby due to an increase in my height, width and ...

lol, good question!

time is a quality of the universe, so the quality of time expands right along with it at the rate of around 80 k/s per megaparsec.

more on space-time....
space-time can be said to be a totally human construct - a model, if you like, to co-ordinate and better describe ...

Except for human stupidity, nothing lasts forever.
Space is not infinite. Even the Universe has boundaries y'know.

No it doesn't, theres just nothing there.

unless you think the universe is composed entirely of nothing,
then you are actually defining a boundary
- between something and ...
