Even before lancehoch posted his response, I had deleted most of my post within about 30 minutes of its initial posting, but obviously not quick enough. [It was there when he started his response, but had disappeared by the time he posted it.]
I'd prefer that it drops but since he reposted most of ...

Re: A note to the moderators
AAFitz, with your strong sense of fair-play & decency, why don't you give Ooga Booga a hand with his question to the mods, which he has been trying to get an answer to for the last several weeks. He admitted that he was cheating (by starting his own thread to turn in himself & his co-conspirator ...

Re: A note to the moderators
There is always room for improvement and yet you resist the call to form an ad hoc committee to improve your anti-cheating techniques, when you already have committees on dice, scoring, tournaments, and probably others as well.

Re: A note to the moderators
The case I mentioned was left hanging for 3 weeks and 80 posts before anyone at your company paid attention to it. And then your company cleared them of cheating.
It was only after a dozen more people got involved in that thread, that someone at the company looked into the case more closely and ...

Re: A note to the moderators
What is really a waste of time is doing the research by hand when it could be accomplished sooo much more easily & quickly through the use of automated tools that an ad hoc committee could provide management with.

Re: Why not option of games where players only lose 20 points?
Considering the posts by BaldAdonis and owenshooter... I much prefer the "unrated option" where no points are conceded over the "set point" exchange. The fact that point hors can't abuse it is a definite plus.
The only problem with this is that with zero points to lose, some people will be much ...

Why not option of games where players only lose 20 points?
Why can't we have have the option of starting games, in which each player only loses 20 points, regardless of the rank of the player who wins the game?

Re: A note to the moderators
The tools and data we use to hunt multis are closely guarded secrets (only 7 active people on the site have this info), which is why twill said if you had any workable suggestions for proving *secret alliances* to post them. I seriously doubt Lack would create a committee and divulge our multi ...

What about a rolling average PPG of last 100 games?

Re: Win Percentage Seems Cool, but is Actually Pretty Useless
Yes, if a once-plateaued player learns new strategies, becomes able to play higher ranked opponents, chooses different partners, etc., then he can once again start climbing the ranks. Without a rolling average of the player's ppg from last 100 games or so, it would be difficult to distinguish this ...

Re: A note to the moderators
They run IP checks and have caught about 1500 multis since the beginning of the year. If they didn't run those checks, the place would be overrun with cheaters. But I ask you, how do you know that teams of cheaters are being caught at a healthy rate? (those that aren't the same person running ...

if you go back in the thread you will see that we were advocating ppg over win %. I ignore win % and instead calculate ppg & compare it to number of games played in order to guestimate whether my opponents have plateaued out.

Re: A note to the moderators
Spin it as you like, but all I have seen is how company management has been discouraging the reporting of cheaters, unless the cheating occurs in one's personal game. If you present a cheat report of cheating not involved in your game, it gets ignored. For example, I filed a report a month ago on a ...

Owenshooter described how he uses the win %'s to size up his competition in doubles games. I'd like to be able to do the same in the various games I play. I want to know when to stay away from a high ppg guy like mhennigan, who would be much more likely to beat me than the other guys at his rank ...

Actually (Points-1000)/games would be more accurate, since this takes into account starting point value of 1000.
that wouldn't be any good either.
generally only the last few hundred games matter when it comes to score.
