My point was that at least in science you have a set up where there are many different sets of eyes and minds from many different backgrounds and belief system looking at the same thing,
So you're saying that lots of people with diverse beliefs about the origin of the world came together, looked ...

I think your incredibly naive to believe that the current crop of scientists, especially in an issue like evolution, have not already decided on the conclusion.

‘We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of some of its constructs, in spite of its failure to fulfill many of its ...

That many of them do indeed bring value to the discussions. As far as Colossus, or you or I go...it's impossible to separate the fact that everyone has a bias in interpreting data. My bias is rooted in how my life changed once I accepted Christ. I don't think you could deny a bias in your own ...

how do scientists know that dinosaurs are 65 million years old were they there?

No, but, as stated previously, they have a pretty accurate system for measuring the age of the rocks that the fossils were found in.

If god wants us to think the universe is 13 billion years old, who are we to ...

To a Non-believer religious ferver can certainly exhibit alot if not all the signs of a drug addiction. You have a course of action that is clearly leading to negative consequences which the person continues despite having to bypass the inborn survival instinct or at the least the comfort instinct ...

I can see your point and it would be an interesting discussion, with some merit. I spoke of it as a red herring only in that it was off the topic and could go on to overshadow the real point of contention between Backglass and I. Sorry, I tend to have a one track mind when it comes to writing ...

I think he would have to do that. Maybe a heart attack while playing CC will do, too.
But we digress. So, Riao, what do you want us to dissect first?
Well to tell the absolute truth, when I made this thread I was wondering to myself why Christianity pops into nearly every discussion here, and why ...

My question was how do you reconcile the fact that the church is made up of fallible corruptible man who could corrupt the message of God to their own interests yet people are supposed to follow the dictates of these people on faith.

The Pope is infallible and as an extension so is the college of ...

yes people do routinely change the message they get but that is the purpose of doctrine and a function of the church. doctrine was made about the time the gnostic gospels were thrown out to combat heresy. the church is also supposed to correct heretical beliefs. occasionally there is a belief that ...

Perhaps it was the fact that their writings downplayed the need for a centralized Church that caused the most distrust amongst the people collating the Bible.

Or perhaps it was the fact that they felt that Jesus had to be incorporeal in order to be sinless, and could not possibly have died if He ...

It all looks pretty even to me. Just at a quick glance green has only not conquered a territory on one turn and has conquered several more territories from blue than from you. You might want to rethink it.

Re: WTFO

That sounds reasonable. There could be foul play, but this sounds like a normal play if the person has 3 cards.

Did I get you correct ? You pass up conquering a person that would get you three additonal cards and go after somebody else ? That is reasonable play !

later you said

I never ...

"I would not live forever because if we were meant to live forever we would live forever and this is why I would not choose to live forever." - Someone. I can't remember.

Definatly not, putting 80% of the population in military training is not a good move, forcing people into a career they dont want even for a year is wrong and i have no idea what the attraction for people is. Not all of us have messed up lives which need army training to sort out, not all of us ...

Now, this may surprise anyone who's engaged me in politically-oriented discussions before, but I think this is a great idea!

I don't really see anything unethical, immoral, undemocratic, abusive of civil rights, or wrong with requiring national service of young people. In fact, I think it might be ...

I personally don't think there’s much of a need for a standing army in today’s society (speaking as a UK citizen). I can see a possible need for a small cadre of special forces and perhaps a larger TA (UK equivalent of the National Guard I think).

I think any move towards an increased military ...

Well, here's my two cents.I live in Finland, which is in Northern Europe, and we have a universal conscription here, mainly because of our history.Service in the military became mandatory in the year 1871,while Finland was still under the rule of Russia, by the order of Russian tsar.

When Russia had ...
