For me its a split decision:

1. Ono, in Maui, out 50' over the pacific, with a group of friends, in perfect weather.
Food was great, but it was the entire experience that was unforgettable.

1. Lobster thermador cooked by my own fiance with a bottle of Dom at my house.
Food was simply the best Ive ever had before, or since.
for fletch fans: Its the exact meal Fletch ordered and charged to the underhills :)

There is no choosing between these.

Best meal I ever had?

Came after working probably 30 hours in the freezing cold, wet and tired. Came in to a turkey dinner already cooked. It was delicious!

Or ... shrimp fresh off the net, "she crab" soup (no longer made with crab eggs), fresh, crusty bread .. and milk (hey, I was working ...)

I don't know, too many to choose from. I'm spoiled in terms of food.

Though I will say that my best cheese experience came not in France, but in a cheese-specializing shop in Montauk. Oral ecstasy, it was.

Last nights Malai Kofta (Vegetarian Indian) was bliss though!

I know what you are all thinking, but it wasn't a Grilled Cheese Sandwich!

It was without a doubt Frosted Flakes like 4 times over 2 days.... the milk was so cold it was almost icy.
Oh man, they're GRRRRRRREEAAAAT!

Barbecued porterhouse smothered in sauteed mushrooms and onions with a decked-out baked potato, steamed asparagus, corn on the cob drenched in butter and a six pack of Killians Irish Red on the fourth of July.

Stopped at this diner in NJ, ordered a cordon bleu dinner. It was awesome! Even stopped back and got it again when I was in the area. Called the Deerpine Diner or something. It had to be in the top 5 best meals I ever had.

Honolulu, Hawaii. At the luau we had freshly roasted and shredded pork and a lava drink (non alcoholic) and I still want to go back and have it again (last time was in 2005).

I'll second the lobster thermador (although not nearly as romantic as yours AAFitz). I had never heard of the dish and ordered it as a last meal out with buddies on spring break. We we're all chatting and having a good time and the first of us tasted the lobster and silence fell at the table until we were done. I think two or three of us proposed to the chef (big burly guy, he good naturedly refused). Absolutely the best meal I've had.

Yesterday, though, I had barbecued ribs at a place called Mary Mac's in Atlanta. I've had lot's of ribs over the years from some very good BBQ places. This took the cake. "Falls off the bone" doesn't even begin to describe it.

I once ate at the Restaurant de la point de l'Arcouest (I think I spelled that right). It's in Brittany, and the price of the meal was about 25% of the price of our entire holiday. We ate five courses, something I have never managed elsewhere. The meal passed in a dream, and today I can only recall the final course, a tarte au framboise.

Possibly surpassed by a meal in Madeira, at the top of the tower hotel which they knocked down a while after - a beef Stroganoff cooked at thte table, stunning.

Best individual item, the Mushroom Bhaji at Husseins in Stratford-on-Avon.

The best meal I ever had was a mildy spicy sausage with some green peppers and onions, followed by a well done steak sandwich with A1 steak sauce, followed by some hot apple crisp with a hint of plain vanilla ice cream.
