I need REAL advice on my web page.....

OK...so I wrote the damn thing like 20 years ago when it was actually ok to code directly in html.

Since then, I had a "friend" manage it for me and set up a shopping cart, etc and bring it into this century. My "friend" is gone and I am too stoopid / old / unedjumuhkayted to figure out how to modify it now :(

I am not wealthy and basically don't trust people when it comes to things like this - hiring someone out of the blue to modify the page. Been screwed (not the good kind) too many times.....Does anyone here do this or have recommendations for me?

I want 1. to simply change some wording and 2. delete the google shopping cart and change the payment method to strictly paypal.

Thanks in advance for your constructive help :D

Haha, that won't be necessary. Why not set them free on your website for all to enjoy?

There ya go, KoolBak. Have a picture of you and biker babe. You're "measuring" along her backside, and the caption will read: "customer service is our specialty" or" At Koolbak & Co., we care about our customers... very much so."

Something about ladies receiving "a free reach-around" might bring em in.

Looks to me like it's autogenerating the page from PHP/ASP/somethinglikethat. If that's the case, your options are to learn whatever language it's written in, pay someone else to do it for you or do the website again, yourself. Sounds a bit harsh, but effectively those are your answers.

If you want to hire someone, set them a little 'test' of writing a bit of trivial code, eg the fuzzbuzz program (write numbers from 1 to 100, but on every multiple of 3 say "fuzz" and every multiple of 5 say "buzz" - and "fuzzbuzz" if it's both, ie output:

Code: Select all

1
2
fuzz
4
buzz
fuzz
7
8
fuzz
buzz
11
fuzz
13
14
fuzzbuzz
16
...

It's trivial. Anyone who can program can write that, and if they can program they're a safe bet. If they can't do that, in no way hire them.

If you don't know what you're looking for, the code should look fairly similar this

Code: Select all

void fuzzbuzz() {
for(i = 1; i <= 100; i++) {
bool printnumber = true;
if (i % 3 == 0) {
print "fuzz"; printnumber = false;
} if (i % 5 == 0) {
print "buzz"; printnumber = false;
}
if (printnumber) { print i; }
}
}

what kind of files are your website data stored in?

you can try editing the HTML file or programming code file in a word processor and change the wording from there (making sure to backup your old file)

typically changing a string (a series of words) won't change the overall way the website works

I don't see a place on your web page to put REAL advice on it.
