Go to majorcommand it's like Conquer Club. Check it out, it works best with Google Chrome.

Don't tell me what to do!

Robinette?

Incandenza?

If they tell me to go there, maybe I will... and maybe I'll become a discussions moderator! MWAHAHAHAHA!

I had forgotten all about that site.

Hey! Who remembers when Andy joined up, over there?

I am sure it is like all the other shit sites. So far every other site I have tried lasted one or two games because they are inferior to CC. Don't waste time on other sites when the best site ever is here. And I bitch about CC dice as much as anyone else :)

Meh, I couldn't get into it. The games I joined I just forgot about and deadbeated out of.

I'll post on the forum now and again but as of now it's nothing compared to CC. However; if lack doesn't get the hint soon it's gonna overtake it.

While CC is the best out there atm, MC is gonna overtake it once it gets going in full gear. They are gonna keep users around because they actually make updates when things are submitted instead of waiting 4 years to do something.

No where near as good as CC, I couldn't even figure out how to join a game. And it wouldn't let me start a game.

right now MC sucks big time on so many levels. it's cluttered, it's not user friendly, it has an almost non existent community, the foundry is hidden, it even has lots and lots of spelling mistakes.
but it has a huge potential for improvement and shows a lot of signs that improvement is done constantly. sadly this can;t be said about CC. so yeah, unless lack does something about it sometime in the future MC could become better. maybe in a matter of months or maybe in a matter of years. nobody knows.

Actually the foundry there hasn't launched yet, as the site is still in BETA.

It was a momentous time for Andy, IIRC.

Hello all.

There is really no need to extoll the virtues of MajorCommand over ConquerClub as there will always be those unconvinced who just prefer their old comfortable shoes. Also people are invested in the community here and don't want to throw that away. I can respect that which is why we have never really tried to siphon off CC users. There is really no need. In the five weeks since being public we have gained about 3,000 active users, while CC has lost some 500.

All I will say is that MajCom was founded by myself, Incandeza, Oaktown, Widowmakers, and others because we were frustrated that we couldn't get done the changes we wanted around here. We have invested hundreds hours into CC and wish it well in the future, but I fear the ship has sailed.

i joined MC yesterday with the sole purpose of checking out the foundry. rj showed me some maps, he told me about the flash and i was really really impressed. that is until i actually joined and found out that the map making is reserved for only a select few (mibi, rj, widowmakers). if you want to make your own map then you can forget about it. you can design it, promote it improve it get feedback for it but in the end one of the 3 cartographers will make the image not you.
so .... ummm... yeah... it's like a bad joke ;)

you see, there are 2 extremes when it comes to map making.
1. the landgrab/luxdelux method. where anybody can make any map with no graphic standards. this usually churns out tons of crappy maps and few good ones.
2. the majorcommand method. where everything is so tightly regulated that nobody can even fart without consent from a higher power. this churns out a few great maps but severely lacks in variety and because there are just 3 mapmakers everything they create revolves around the same stylistic choices. if you happen to like that style then it's great. if you don't then there's no chance you'll find anything nice.

and then there's the CC method where anybody can come make a map but under some strict regulations. this takes the best of each method above and creates the perfect hybrid. theoretically this is the best method if you want a decent amount of map, variety in style and theme and all wrapped up in quality.

yes, for various reasons the CC foundry isn't as perfect as it should be but this only shows that if a perfect method can sometimes fail then surely 2 imperfect methods (landgrab/majorcommand) will almost always fail.

DiM, yes we have a different process, but I am not sure why you think it will fail. We have simply chose to keep the graphic standards very high. You can rest assure that MC will never have the 200+ maps that CC has, to me, that's just a giant heap of maps.

You can also rest assured the maps wont look like this.
http://maps.conquerclub.com/Portland.L.jpg

The style is really quite varied among the map makers we have. Here are a few examples of what's in the pipe.

The reason we have high standards isn't because we are looking to shutout potential mapmakers, it's because we make some damn fine maps.

While they look nice, I'm much more of a fan of simple geographic maps. I may join MC someday, but if you aren't going to have a fairly significant amount of maps, then I just don't see enough maps really appealing to me.

Out of those, the only map I personally like is Africa, but I'm afraid all those inset maps would get rather annoying, as it interrupts the natural flow of a map. The space map is rather silly, far too Catan-esque, while the other is a cool concept, it's graphically blah, in my opinion.

But to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of many of the maps being pumped out here either.

the process will fail simply because it won't attract new map makers. when i came to CC i had no idea how to draw and i could barely use windows paint. but the foundry helped me improve and encouraged me to learn until i was able to make my own maps and i say they look at least decent.
now a person like me that joins MC will never learn how to use photoshop and will probably never become a map maker. the main thing that drives me when making a map is that i can design what i want and i'm enjoying photoshoping. it simply relaxes me. on MC i could never do that because all the graphics would be done by you rj or wm.

you want to keep graphics standards high? that's great and i salute that. but don't shut out other map makers simply help them get up to the standards that you want to enforce.

PS: that space map is hideous in both style as well as technical aspects. it shouldn't be anywhere near the other 2.

The interface there frankly is a disaster. One of the things that CC does better than just about anyone else is the UI, and majorcommand's is a major distraction from gameplay.

Although the integration of maps and gameplay is nice, I have to say I don't see the attraction otherwise.

DiM, the focus of MC is kick ass strategy gaming, not training people in how to use photoshop. If it were the latter, then yeah, it would be a failure.

As for the space map, yeah its not up to par. It's still in development and you can trust when its ready for release, it will be hot. You are welcome to critique it yourself.

If they even made the updates after 4 years of waiting. competition is healthy, and CC needs a good site to compete it so updates can be done much faster!
