What are you opinions? I personally lean towards the Natives.

If we count total casualties plus displaced future economic growth, it would have to be the American Indians.

Chicanos are a good upset pick for most screwed over. At least with most other ethnic groups we were relatively straightforward when dicking them over. Chicanos, we invited into the country during wartime labor shortage and THEN passed racist policies against.

oh so there was an opportunity for them to make a wage when we had a shortage, and then we "dick them over" when our soldiers come home and want to work? Yes they filled shortages, no the positions were not permanent. They got money while they could, which was a good thing.

Can't you ever be grateful or proud that we were a country with so much job opportunity in the first place?

I would rank as follows:

(1) Natives - Killed en masse from the 16th century until the 20th century.
(2) Blacks - Brought here against their will; enslaved; no equal rights until 1964.
(T3) Asians - Were not slaves, but were pretty much indentured in the 19th century. Pretty much good to go now.
(T3) Chicanos/Chicanas - Villified in the 19th century by the western expansion of the white folks; I suppose you could argue illegal immigration stuff, but, well, they are breaking the law I suppose.
(T3) Arabs - Get the post-2001 racism thing going
(T3) Europeans - Depending on who they were, were subject to bigotry through most of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Not to mention internment for Japanese-Americans during WWII. But I'd say I agree with your list.

I voted Native Americans because even though blacks were enslaved, that was more a matter of the state of the world at the time, combined with some particular state action (in which the government refrained from interfering). In the case of the Native Americans, the government itself was the instrument of abuse. Native Americans were outright killed (debatably worse than being enslaved), imprisoned, sickened with diseases (not just inadvertantly.. I mean things like intentionally giving them blankets from typhoid victims). Etc.

I like greekdog's list, though one reason that Latin Americans fall lower is that it was much, MUCH easier for them to integrate after a generation or so. Also, there always was a kind of stupid division.. "Spanish" was OK, whereas "Mexican" (etc.. they were all called "mexicans") was not.

You did forget Chinese, not just Japanese. Chinese were brought here in droves, particularly to work the western railroads.. but virtually enslaved and limited to their own sections. That they were happy to isolate themselves (considering themselves superior to us) is perhaps irrelevant.

What I learned form history and you either ignore or deny, is that our founders left the constitution for us which clearly limits what the government can do and spells out clearly many things the gov't cannot do. That is the answer to checking the abuse of power from our gov't, all we need to do is use the Constitution correctly, and for what it was intended for, IMO. Freedom



PS another thing you ignore is that people needed to stand up and fight for and claim their rights, you don't just wait around until someone gives them to you. Women did this mostly all by themselves in the 1920's, and they deserve the credit.
