I am seriously considering blowing my head off with a shotgun. I don't want to live in a world where this is considered music.

Wow, that really is a horrible fucking song.

And just look at this guy...it's a damn good thing he's a rapper, otherwise I don't think he'd amount to much in life. Is his hair tattooed on?

K AoG I've got this little theory regarding the ridiculousness of today's "hip-hop"/rap stuff (btw hip-hop is dead). Back in the eighties, that hair metal crap was so popular, and it just became utterly asinine. Like Poison or WASP and their flaming cod-pieces. After years of the stuff, something else came along (grunge), and it wasn't in fashion anymore, because it was just too much, and people realized it. This allowed good metal to survive (like Pantera and Sepultura), and now we've got some decent metal today, although it's not in radio play.

I think (or hope rather) that this is what'll happen to the shit today. Something better(? at least different) will come along, and people will realize just how stupid some of this shit they've been listening to really is, and it won't be popular anymore.

I'm not sure I agree with your theory. Grunge is pretty polarizing. I know there are a lot of people who hate Nirvana, but bands that seem to have a shit ton of fans (Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam, specifically) are considered grunge yet are still very likable. Or maybe I'm not understanding your theory.

Why can't we get a legitimate hip-hop artist or rapper that doesn't come with a fucking gimmick?

It's like that Batman quote...either you die while a good rapper (Tupac, Biggie, etc.) or live long enough to see yourself become a complete sellout (Ice Cube, Snoop, etc.).

the hip hop market today is just as over-saturated as puff ball hair bands.

Soulja Boy = Winger

It wasn't so much that grunge fixed things, it's just that hair metal reached this tipping point, where it became so ridiculous that the market moved to something else. Grunge happened to be there, and it wasn't pretentious like hair/glam metal.

And goddamnit how many times must I tell you Alice in Chains ain't grunge...

This is just some funny Dutch hip hop.

"Ik ben dom lomp en famous" = I'm stupid crude and famous.

Keep listening to the lyrics though, even not knowing any dutch they're still funny.

Oh and as for the ending, I have no idea what the hell's going on.

Music operates within the market, and those who understand the market will deliver the music that becomes well-known. The most popular or well-known music comes from excellent marketing (or occasionally from extreme luck). In other words, you could have the best music in the world, but if no one hears it, it doesn't really exist. The problem with "music cycles" revolves around three factors: 1) how much does marketing influence our musical interests, 2) how much do our musical interests influence marketing, and 3) how are musical interests developed?

If you can figure that out, then you could determine the new hotness.

These are all interesting questions.

Irrelevant, however, considering the shit Soulja Boy and friends make is not music.
