Can somebody tell me specifically how the surrender button was abused while it was implemented,and what the surrendering player
(or other players) gained by taking this action?

I don't know but I could guess. Join a bunch of games against the same person, either your friend or a multi, then have them surrender all the games so that your score skyrockets. Probably something along those lines.

Point dumpers abused it. For whatever reason anyone would want to point dump, they abused it.

Outside of the abuse that went with it, a lot of players complained that it was 'less fun' to always have your opponent surrender, since it was taking away the thrill of the victory.
