Yep in real life we can steer well clear of the religious zealots ( most of the Christian ones are in the USA anyway ) and indeed most other mentaly unstable types. Sadly though this site does not have any retard filters so I am often assaulted with a barrage of verbal garbage, this means I need to defend myself.

It's rather strange how things like this differ between regions. In Minnesota, where I reside, the atheists are the ones who are the "religous" fanatics. They're the ones preaching on the street corners, ridiculing other beliefs, trying to convert others to their lack of faith. It's weird how the athiests are the ones with the Holier-Than-Thou attitude. And I find it ironic how they've become the thing they stand against. Clearly it isn't all atheists, because I have several atheist friends who are very respectful of other faiths. But here I have never seen a religious person doing the above mentions things.
In the Bible Belt on the otherhand, only a few hundred miles away. It sounds like the exact opposite. Of course my knowledge of that region comes from a few airports, a drive to Atlanta, people on this forum and that movie "Jesus Camp."

But, whatever, someone's faith is their own business.

Honestly...atheists don't have the time to preach on street corners and could care less what magic you believe in! Religious people cannot fathom the fact that Atheists have none. They have to label it a religion...a "religion of non-belief", etc. It's funny really. There is no Atheists church (other than the one wacko website Jay always touts), no bibles, no doctrines, nothing. We generally don;t get together and talk about atheists stuff...that would be too much like a religion.

They want their ancient texts on courthouse walls. They want to perform rites before High School Football games, etc. Go to your home/church and pray away. Pray before you eat your Big Mac. Pray in the car on the way to work. Pray during your hourly cigarette break (Jay).

Yup, "Neo Athiests" are hardcore about ending religion. They feel it causes most of the worlds problems. Never met one myself. The only guy I saw preaching in the street (odd thing considering I live in picturesque suburbia) was a Christian guy saying that being Christian isn't enough to get you into heaven. I assume he meant that he would, of course, go himself. Anyways, I was hanging out with another athiest friend of mine and we thought it might be fun to go debate the guy. Unfortunately he had two lackeys that said he was busy and they'd talk with us if we wanted. I suck at debating outside of a keyboard, so I let my friend do the talking. In five minutes we had them to the "it's Satan trying to fool us" argument. Good times.

I wouldn't say you've won any debate. You've only exposed how those who disagree with you act. I, for one, would enjoy an actual discussion with a Muslim, Christian, Mormon, or any person of faith without hearing the tired old 'you're an idiot for not being an atheist like me' routine. I doubt anyone could give me a good reason for believing in God and changing my mind, but at least it would be a step up from what's being thrown out here in Chatter Box.

If you got to know some outside of this website you'd probably see that most are very reasonable people and actually quite nice. They don't preach anything and just live their lives.

I would enjoy a serious dicussion but it just doesn't seem to happen on here.

Sure, some people resort to insults--on both sides. But I've also seen plenty of decent, intelligent conversation--from both sides. I think the best policy would be to just ignore the mudslinging and respond to the intelligent discussion. There's even been some of that in this thread.

Atheists, by the very definition, cannot "hate God". You can't hate the Easter Bunny, the G-Spot or other such mythical creatures if they don't exist.

That would be great! I must admit that I've thrown some mud here in the forums but I would like to talk to people of different beliefs. I am genuinely interested in hearing someone's story about how they joined up with a certain church or political group. The most interesting topic for me would be about economics and business.
