As far as Olog-hai, I'm going to go with the concept that they're troll-man hybrids, the same way that the uruk-hai were man-orc hybrids (tho I might be confusing events in the movies with events in the books)

In the movie Uruk-hai were goblin-orc hybrids I believe(In Sarumans little schpeal about how Sauron is the greatest).

This is a pet peeves of mine. GOBLINS AND ORCS ARE THE SAME THING. I think orc refers to the larger ones more.

Interesting.
Simon got there first by saying they're trolls, which they are.
Incandenza expanded it, but is actually wrong. Seriously, how would you cross-breed a man with a troll?!

Not good enough though. What could they do, that other trolls couldn't?

What are Uruk-hai, and who created them? And what are the distinction between them and orcs?

Saruman, and the difference is that orcs are orcs while Uruk-hai are described by Gandalf as having been created by strange/horrific breeding experiments as an orc-man hybrid thing.

however, I believe it's Tim's turn for the question.

The Gandalf bit is wrong - turns out it's actually treebeard who speculates that they were crossbred- and there were "Uruk's" of Sauron but "the mighty uruk-hai who do not care for sun or moon" are definitely created by Saruman.

if that's not the case, please do enlighten me (by PM).

Goldberry, the river-maiden, I believe.

What is the date that Frodo is stabbed by the Nazgul (probably the witch king, I can't remember if that bit's certain though)?

October 11.

And orcs were created by Morgoth, I believe, in a mutilated imitation of elves. Uruk-hai were created by Saruman in a mutilated imitation of men. I hope that answers your question exile.

What are trolls a mutilated imitation of?

The Ents.
Right then, these questions are getting too easy. Time to mess with your heads a little...

Who or what was Gothmog?

Be careful on this one.

I can back him up here. The former is 100% correct, the latter most probably.

The former yes, I know - the latter, while it may be true, requires some further reading on my part before I believe it.

Just on a pedantic note -- orcs weren't imitations of Elves -- they were Elves, having been tortured ruthlessly for god knows how long (well, somebody knows...) by Morgoth.

Heard of the book? You should read it sometime. It's really good.

ok i'm going to have to ask which age your looking for as i can remember there were two of them but i'm going to have to go look up the The Silmarillion if you want to know about the 1st one

i'll just go with the one in the 3rd age as his in the films too i think
Gothmog was 2nd in command of the nazgul, commander of minus morgal and i believe he commanded the forces of sauron durring the battle of pellinior field's.

now the film i'm not too sure about but he must have led the assult on minis tirth which would make him the witch king that Eowyen killed (i think i'm just guessing here he was in the film at some point though as one of the witchkings )

Uh uh, he wasn't the witch king, although he does appear in the films.

Which confirms what I said about Treebeard thinking elves and men had been crossbred by Saruman, right? We did take his word for trolls being twisted ents...

Simon Viavant wrote:Heard of the book? You should read it sometime. It's really good.

Sarcasm without an answer, clever. No, which book - there's 3, or 6 if you want to be pedantic.
