Ok, put me (alstergren) and cmeb4udie and eye84free up for a team. U.S.A. and a number something I guess unless you can make it regional as U.S.A. North Carolina or C.S.A. North Carolina... :D

EDIT: Actually the last name would be preferred since we sure as hell don't fight like no damnyankees... :D

philbert, bretzsky and b rad will play as a team for Canada. one fort and flat rate could make for a very long tourney.

I suggest a mix of gameplay styles in the group stages

1st game : Classic map, Flat Rate, Unlimited fortifications
2nd game : Classic map, Escalating, 1 fortification
3rd game : Classic map, Escalating, Unlimited fortifications

Second round games to be: Classic Map, Flat Rate, Unlimited Fortifications

Quarter final games to be: Classic Map, Escalating, 1 Fortification

Semi finals to be: Classic Map, Escalating, Unlimited Fortifications

Third place play off game & WORLD CUP FINAL to be: Classic Map, Flate rate, 1 Fortification.

Does this seem fair?

alstergren - there are a lot of canadian teams, and there is one team of Swedish players who are a player short.

Stand up and be counted as the swede that you are, and make sweden a team of swedes.

When America sends a man to mars and he steps out on the red planet he will be AMERICAN, not a Martian because thats where he is... he will be American, because thats where he was BORN.

Join Sweden.

Haha! I would but this tournament is a way to win or loose points. Need to play with my usual team partners to be able to do my best. Besides, the Americans gladly takes my taxes these days, so I figured it would be ok to play with them here despite the passport from the homeland.

worst case senario is you play three games and loose, and VanCleef is no muppet. - I dunno, who the other Swede is, but if you were to lose every single game of the first three, to a bunch of idiots on 500 points each you'd lose 120 points.

But I dont think you would, do you?

If you leave your threesome for a maxiumum of 7 games (7 games if you get to the final) it means you would of won a minimum of 4 games to get there - so no points lost.

Man... I'm not saying that VanCleef is a muppet. As far as I can tell, he isn't. Besides, I thought all games were tripples. But never mind.

As you wrote in your first post: "What with the World Cup coming up how about some teams based on Countries (p.s. - you have to live there), with exactly the same World Cup group format....."

I assume that you meant "i.e." and not "p.s." But if I live in the States, what is so bad with playing with my regular team... Jebus... Didn't think you would take my entry to your tournament personal...

Well pointed out, I've changed the first post, to clarify things.

Live changed to : Born there

(I completely overlooked the fact that people move around the world)

I'm sorry if ive f***ed up the start of this thread with some bad english, but i thought that everyone understood the rules of how a person is chosen to play for their country in a world cup game.

You have to be born there.

Well... then how come that 90% of the Italian world cup ice hockey team was born and lives in Canada? People move around as you say. Usually it's the first national team one plays for that is decisive for future tournaments etc., one cannot easily switch after that one.

Your idea is great, but why don't you stick to your original idea and play this thing out as you stated initially. To start changing the rules due to your personal nationalistic preferences is just stupid.

I'm not changing the rules, I misworded the original first post.

And I'm not being Nationalistic - The main gist of the world cup, is that it pits country against country and this means where you're born. I'm sorry if I've given you a wrong line at the start... I just thought everyone understood how your nationality worked.

If some people out there feel that they don't give a sh*t about where they are born, and its where they live thats important - then this competition isn't for you as you've clearly lost all national pride.

It was always going to be hard get some teams (like Sweden for example) and I though that given half the chance - you'd rather see a team of Swedes competing than 7 Canadian teams.

I know you want to play with the guys who you regularly play triples with - but for a maximum of seven games, it doesnt seem like I'm asking the earth to try out another team.

Once again - I'm sorry about the first post being incorrect - but I had a World Cup idea one night, and started frantically typing away before i forgot the scoring idea that i worked out for the group stages. It wasn't a well thought out plan that has been honed over the years.. It was an idea i had quickly.

I think it's fair enough, although I reckon unlimited forts only could be the better idea, as it might take a bit too long otherwise. As for the map... maybe we could do a vote, as I don't think we need to do it on the world map just as it's the World Cup, I mean, it's not like the tournament is held all over the world, each tourney is in a different country. Maybe we could make the World Cup a regular event, and hold each on different maps? Just my ideas... feel free to flame everyone...
