Hm, I'm still not won over by this idea. It hasn't really captured my attention or imagination.

To me this has no appeal.
fighting over bits of torn up paper seems pointless.

I'm going to agree with all those that have said the map holds no interest. I've avoided saying anything to date, because DiM's just going to think I've got something against him.
Seriously though, I don't think it matters what sort of spin you put on it, a map of torn up parchment does little to inspire any sort of interest. I get that you're having fun experimenting with Photoshop and other programs, but first get something really worthy of a map before you put your new found talents to the test.

I completely agree. Sorry if I was harsh, but seriously the previous theme sounded like a joke.
Again, the text in the paper is not to be read... so it doesnt really need to be readable. A demonic scroll of black magic, or a pirate map of treasure (good idea, Guiscard), with a proper surrounding atmosphere, would have more appeal than any text created by humankind. Well, at least this is my opinion

I like either of these ideas, and both lend themselves to much more easily naming territories. The pirate map specifically, you can come up with all kinds of "piratey" names for stuff. Everybody likes pirates! You
know at the end of games you're going to scream "YARRR!"

A torn treasure map could work. Switch the feather with a dagger and the picture with a compass. Also if you do follow this path, name one of the territories 'Ninja cove' so the everyone is happy

OK, I'm going to get flamed for saying this, but somebody is going to bring it up so it may as well be me...
I love the new approach - it accurately represents what the Bush administration has done to the Bill of Rights.
There, I said it, and I'm proud that I did. Meanwhile, the black helicopters are circling above my apartment...

I like your creativity, but your downfall is picking a document. Most people don't really find it interesting to battle on a piece of parchment. I for one love your idea, and inspiration, andI reall want to see what new maps you roll out. This one unfortunately isn't gaining enough support.
If you still have the courage to press onward these are a couple things I noticed.
#1 You have a lot of territories. The origional map has 42, you are at 54.
#2 Your map is very difficult to get around. Blocking the center as it is, makes continents very safe. Also it makes it hard to get from point A to point B.
#3 take into account that when a continent is on the edge it is harder to get to, because people often have to fight over each other to get at that player. Conversly when something is located in the center it is easier to get to, and people can easily attack it. Take this into account when assigning bonuses.

judging by the results in the poll i should consider the map is ok as it is now. BUT i'm not satisfied with only 70%. i want 100% iwant everybady to eagerly awit to play this map. so i bow down to your suggestions and try to satisfy all your requests.
although only a fool could ever think everybody can be pleased, there's allways gotta be some wise guy to vote no.
so i'll do the pirate map even if this means a lot of work.
my fault for not picking a country and doing the map. i bet nobody would have argued. my fault for trying to be a little creative
i suppose there's also no use for me to start on the Hollow Earth and Septerra Core maps i have planned. people will say, "what the hell is a hollow earth? do something else"
what if the torn parchment would be a torn map of USA would you like it? wouldn't you still fight for scraps of paper? they would just have a country instead of text drawn on the paper.

People aren't rejecting this because it's too creative... on the contrary, it could be argued that you're showing a lack of creativity by not pushing the concept to a point where it fully makes sense as a game map. As it is, the map is still too abstract.
For instance, what exactly now makes it the Bill of Rights? If it's simply the fact that you put hamilton's photo in the middle - an image that most users won't recognize anyway - that's not going to cut it. And the text is so light it's just hard to read background.
What if you dropped in the text of Bill of Rights, then highlighted one key word or phrase in each territory that became the name of that territory? It would take some work, but then the territories themselves become concepts from the document. You could attack The Press from Freedom of Speech, Searches and Seizures could attack Public Trial, Impartial Jury could attack Unusual Punishment., etc. Then you'd have to find a way to group the territories to create continents, so we aren't just going from upper left to upper central, etc.
Of you could just do a pirate map, I guess.

the text on the background really is from the bill of rights. and the names Upper Central or Lower Left, as i've said numerous times, are there just to form an idea. they aren't the final names.
PS: the pirate map i want to do will still be a torn piece of paper so you'll still be fighting for paper scraps. i don't want to do like Ahoy island and Pirate's Cove as separate territories. you'll still find them on the map, but perhaps Pirate's Cove it's ripped and half is on a territory and the rest isn't even there. i don't know if i make myself clear but the pirate map would still have the same concept, bits of paper. the map itself would be just as a background image like the text from the bill of rights.

Don't be disheartened. Your graphics really are great, one of the best in development. Maybe a pirate map will be the theme to pull it together into a really great, attractive, playable map.
Other maps you are thinking of may well be fine. The problem with this theme isn't that people don't know what it is, but that it really isn't anything at all. I don't know whether Hollow earth is a fantasy map, based on some kind of book or whatever but it sounds interesting.

it's not about the graphics. i really don't understand this theme thing everybody is nagging me about. in the map preferences thread i see that a whopping 80% want gameplay (60%) and graphics (20%). only 8% consider the theme as an important factor. and yet everybody on this thread keeps telling me about the lousy theme i picked. this is what i don't understand. this map has good graphics and gameplay and yet i see people are not pleased
anyway here's a quick preview of the pirate map. it's done in a few minutes just to get an idea. you still have bits of paper. those are the actual territories and continents.
i alos added blood stains instead of ink stains. is it ok now?? the borders are really exagerated just for this preview.

Yeh that looks much better (or will do once graphics are done properly).
Make sure its not a cartoony map though (not like the current one).
The problem with your poll is that although gameplay is the most important at the end of the day, most people voting won't have a massive experience of creating or commenting on maps. What attracts people to play (and, therefore, to discover whether or not a map is playable or not) is the theme and the graphics. A map with great playability, such as Brazil or the Middle East, has very few pages of games because it is ugly, and the same would go for a map with a bad theme.
You need to have great gameplay, but that doesn't mean theme and graphics don't matter. I'd rank them as joint second only just behind playability.

Wisse I'm assuming its not gonna have that cartoony map, its just to show the general idea. Don't dismiss it so easily. it doesn't even have territories yet.

ok i understand and i can live with that but i want to know some reasons. (don't take into consideration the graphics-they will be considerably improved, i did this new one just for people to get the idea)
so what don't you like? don't tell me it's the them cause i'll just go crazy.
edit// will you play the old one?
