In another wave of defense for renaming Europe Jr. Europe, I just realized that the Europe map also has a territory that shares a name with a continent (Western Russia).
Also, the word Europe appears a lot of times in this post.

In my opinion, the names that needs changing:
Andy's Mountains
Sarah's Desert
Europe Jr
Irakistan
Conga
More Russia
Iceland
Germany
I agree with KEYOGI on this one. This kid must have never paid attention in class or never read a book, because when I was seven i never thought the Sahara is Sarah and generally, if kids know where Greenland is, they know the proper location of Iceland. Learning where Greenland and Iceland is goes hand in hand. I can see that there is supposed to be a "kid" theme on this map, but I think the names of the territories are too weird for me (especially Sarah's Desert, I hate that one). Also, what is interesting is that a seven year old kid would never call that territory East India. (he'd probably call it china or something)

I'll just throw out in opposition to the above post, I think Andy's Mountains should stay. Perhaps I'm a bit biased though...
I also like Irakistan. The rest, I'm more indifferent on.
But it might be more helpful, if you think the names should be changed...if you think of suggestions to change them to.

I love the originality of the names. Keep 'em! Also, the map looks beautiful, great job!

A couple of suggestions for Europe Jr.:
"West-er Europe"
"England"

Calling it England sounds OK or you could call it Eastern Europe because he doesn't know his compass.

I think Europe Jr. should just be called france, it makes sense when the child thinks of europe all he thinks of is france, germany and UK and doesn't realise there are any other countries

Eastern Europe, I really like that.

There's no way of telling whether or not a stupid 7 year old would know this other than by finding some stupid 7 year old and letting them fill in the country names. The only trouble is making sure that the 7 year old is stupid, it wouldnt really work if the kid actually knew where all of the countries were.

First thing I would like to mention is the names. I get the map is trying to be cute and a little humorous, but I think some of the names go beyond this and are verging on ridiculous. How stupid is this 7 year old? I mean, if they can draw a map of the world, they should be able to identify the countries and continents they've drawn a little better. Names I have a particular problem with are Europe Jr, Irakistan, More Russia, Conga and the spelling correction in Australia. I think the following would be more appropriate for a 7 year old, if not so funny to some of you:
Europe Jr = France, Spain or an actual country
Irakistan = Middle East
More Russia = maybe have East and West in there, I'm not sure
Conga = South Africa
Australia = just have the correct spelling
I realise the ideas might not be as funny or whatever to some of you, but once the idea of these wear of the idea is kind of lame in my opinion. 7 year olds aren't that dense so it all seems a little over the top.
The Canada/USA border seems over the top as well. It can be easily fixed to reflect real country borders. I'm not sure why there are so many gaps around the Europe Jr/Germany/Arabia area and as such you've had to add in another sea type connection. I'd suggest extending Arabia up to fill in the gaps and remove that connection. I also think having a world map without China is like having a meat pie without sauce (Australian thing

). Perhaps it can be worked in around the Russia/More Russia thing.
The compass is another example of this over the top approach. A 7 year old should have no trouble identifying North, East, South and West. Plus the S is around backwards, the only S on the map to do so.
Those are my major concerns for now, I'll let you respond to those before I get carried away with my novel.

I think you are vastly over estimating 7 year olds. I would be impressed if a 7 year old could create a map this well....the map you are suggesting is far too accurate for your average american 7 year old.

I still got east and west mixed up when I was 12. In fact, I get them mixed up occasionally today, and I'm about to graduate from college.

Yea, I always thought East was West and vice versa when I was young, and only remembered it once I was told about the 'WE' thing when I was 12...

W- Weetbix.
That's how we remember it when we were young. You should put it around the compass.
If you don't know what Weetbix is, it's a type of cereal.

I think you may be missing the fun of this map, we all accept that it will not be as fun once the novelty wears off and some of the names may be slightly exagerated it but it is just a laug and a very well presented one at that

That's pretty useless if you don't know where to start and whether you should write clockwise or counterclockwise. It's easier to just remember what the directions are.
Or, maybe I was a really nerdy kid. Yeah, I was.

my point exactly! the map should be fun, not accurate. i even confuse now east to west sometimes when im in a hurry, so a 7old would not know the corect position of the cardinal points.
the names are most alright. i dont like to much europe jr. but in rest it's ok.

Whenever you've got a chance, mind posting both versions?
Also, are you still going with the XML modifications you were talking about a few pages back?

I'm working on the small version right now, but it's taking a while to transfer from vectors to rasters.
I have changed the large version a bit: The "Jr." is gone from Europe and now it says "China" instead of "East India".
As for the XML, I'm considering it -- if I do change it I'll have to add something on the map saying, for instance, "you get 2 minimum armies each turn".

Working with Corel Draw or Adobe illustrator? Because in Corel I know you can do the scaling by grouping everything as an object and just bringing it up, then convert afterward.
