My mind has been blown, Italy losing to Costa Rica? Insane. Uruguay might beat them too, hell if Costa Rica can do it, surely Uruguay can.
And then they're out, both of them, Uruguay and Costa Rica advancing from that group would be one of the greatest upsets in the groupstage ever.

I don't remember, really don't remember the last time England fullfiled expectatives. So to me Uruguay advancing isn't a surprise at all. And even less if the forwards are Suarez and Cavani.

1966, or was it 1066? one of those :P.
Uruguay hasn't advanced, England is out but it is Costa Rica that has advanced, were you not surprised that Costa Rica advanced from that group? Given that we're talking about three significantly much better teams, two in particular but the other having a long history of success in the World Cup as well, only a fool could predict Costa Rica to go through.
If you didn't believe in England you pick Italy and Uruguay to go through, if you don't believe in Uruguay you pick England and Italy to go through and if you don't believe in Italy you pick England and Uruguay to go through. Only a total Costa Rican homer or someone choosing randomly could end up predicting Costa Rica to advance from that group.

I don't know why England should have expectations in the first place. Their EPL is tough because it's full of foreign stars IMO!

Yeah i had a friend who told me "beware of costa rica" before the wc and I just laughed at him. That was totally impossible to predict. I have always been sure it would end up with uruguay first and second place for either italy or england, most likely italy. 0pts for costa rica, i couldn t imagine them sneaking a point out of any game.

Ok, so right now, after some scientific calculation... In case of a draw uruguay (3pts, 3 goals in favour 3 against) makes it through vs italy (3 points, 2 goals in favour 2 against).

Uruguay is 4 goals against as they lost 3-1 to Costa Rica. It means they have to win because draw favors Italy.

as pirlo said, uruguay needs a win cause they scored 3 and conceded 4 while italy scored 2 and conceded 2.

but both teams will aim for the win because if england beats costa rica, italy/uruguay have a shot at 1st place. and that means instead of facing columbia they might get something like japan/ivory coast.

Hum yep sorry true! Uruguay costa rica was 1-3 not 1-2. Well in that case, i think italy will just try to defend, because their attack sucks this year.

group F is the worst group, i have no hopes for good games in that group. especially after Iran/Nigeria.

unfortunately these are the games i can watch, and miss games like spain/chile and US/Ghana.

at least we have Germany/Ghana to look forward to today

argentina freaking sucks. i actually think it would be a better strategy for france to finish second... so we face argentina then belgium.
right now we would be looking at bosnia, then germany, then brasil................ no chance.

Just winning games in the WC is big for both of these teams
and advancing is beyond icing on the cake.

If Brazil Argentina fucks like they play futbol,
they'll never get it in.

Iran has shown they can kick the ball over the net
and into the stands just as good as Brazil Argentina.

For Costa Rica, sure. Uruguay was in the semi finals four years ago. Advancing beyond group stage is not their goal; they want to win the title.

Bollocks.

I think Costa Rica has looked better in their games so far, but I suppose who you're playing is the real factor and I just don't see Uruguay going deep into the tourney. Costa Rica has a quickness as a team that makes them a scarier opponent.

Brazil Argentina runs circles around Iran and I anticipate an Iranian net full of balls, if the Brazilians Argentines collect themselves in the second half.

Is France playing well, or have they just lacked a worthy opponent?

Brazil is NOT Argentina.
And the answer with France very well might be "both".

And of course it's Messi. So close to a draw for Iran, but Messi steals it away at the end.

iran deserves a draw. argentina played poorly vs bosnia and vs iran. it's a shame they get 6 points after 2 crappy games.

Uruguay has won 2 world cups; is the current south american champion, semi finalist of the previous world cup and has some top notch players on every line. They are historically and currently a much better nation in football than england; anyone following football knows that the upset would be uruguay not qualifying.

I think it's both regarding France. Switzerland did some great qualifications for the world cup and was highly over rated as the 6th best nation worldwide. I was not confident, but we completely out played them.
vs honduras, they got a red car early in the game so it was a walk in the park. So basically yes; we did play well, but we are lacking opposition so far.

oh, and it was argentina playing iran, not brazil.

Doh! Just shows how focused I am on a day of dull matches.
Argentina 1 - Iran 0 . . . Messi in the 90' is a shame
I didn't bother tuning in to the second half.

Now it's Germany vs Ghana scoreless after 45'
