Exactly. It's better safe than sorry...
Though I admit I don't understand how Harsbo has a copyright on "Attack."
j/k, of course. They've got to remove all resemblance in terminology. It's not about the individual words, its about our instructions sounding just like theirs.

The new intensity cubes are nothing like the ones in the videos where all the people have naked seizures.

I'm confused by the changes.
About the ONLY thing the makers of the board game can argue, is the distribution of countries on the "classic" map.
1) You CANNOT copyright a map of existing or previously existing countries etc.
'2) You CANNOT copyright any words recognized in the dictionary...so the owners of this site could even call the site RISK if they want to...as long as they don't use the artwork of the name the board game makers did. Especially when they refer to actual terms and recognized definitions (ie. cards, reinforcements, etc.)
3) You CANNOT copyright the layout/design of a die...even D&D that used 20-sided dice found that out when they tried to sue someone for introducing 20-sided dice into another game.
Of COURSE this site posed a threat to the board game company...because THEY were not innovative or forward thinking enough to think of it themselves. If THEY were smart...they'd offer to buy it rather than attack it.
What the owners of THIS site should be doing...is looking for a site host outside the US. Then the boardgame company has no jurisdiction over any of the issues.
As a side note...the new "classic map" really stinks...someone could have at least made it "look" like a map of some kind...or laid it out better.
Hopefully someone here will make a change for the better...and stop worrying about the idiots at the boardgame company.

But "Reinforcing" sounds better than "Fortifying."
Look on the bright side...

Probably because Risk uses three little white dice vs two little red dice....something stupid like that.
Hasbro doesn't have a copyright on
virtual dice vs
real dice vs any dice for that matter!
then just change the dice colors... i dont like numbers

I never look at the dice anyway, I just look at the yellow outline. I can live with the green.

cant you fuckers(twilldo) (lack), and anybody else figure out a fucking way to make the classic map a little better than what it looks like now.
i understand the copyright infringement bullshit, but that new look is fucking retarded. cant you just rename the fucking countries?
cant you just make the map look a little different?
i for one, am done playing the classic map. and being that, that is the only map i like to play. i am done with cc.

The Classic map has been rendered close to unplayable....my head hurts just looking at it. Did I read correctly that it will be re-done as an actual map, not like the chemical make-up of some element?

Hear hear. Well said.
* The classic map we were all playing with was NOT a breach of Hasbro copyright.
* The use of the words 'attack', 'fortify' and 'cards' was NOT a breach of Hasbro copyright.
* The images of dice used to determine and illustrate the outcome of battle was NOT a breach of Basbro copyright.
Unfortunately, hosting outside of the US will not necessarily immunise CC against copyright breach, as all but a handful of countries in the world are signatories to the Bern agreement, in which they all defend and enforce each other's copyright obligations.

As to how ugly it is, sure, it can be revamped, and hopefully will be, it's not my favourite map right now. However, it's got to steer well clear of any possible copyright concerns.
There's not much else I can say, I'm afraid...apologies

Good positive thoughts OliverFA.
How about a Hasbro map? It could have targets like Legal Dept, etc. and everyone could have fun conquering Hasbro with the new intensity cubes.

Man, I'm glad I don't really use Risk⢠(suck it Hasbro, your sales probably go up from sites like this, stop wasting the profits on crushing the fun out of internet games) features on this site any more.

I fully support CC and it's staff.
Please keep moving our posts with no explanation whatsoever, or telling us what content it was you didn't want in the public realm. Cause that's really professional and stuff.

I'd be happy to help, but it would be helpful to have a definitive list of what was supposed to be so wrong with the old map that cannot be included in the new map. Why not post that in here to help us all understand?

Although I lack the collegial articulation of Mr. ronc8649 I have to admit that is an extremely pathetic stab at the classic map, as well it had been my favorite and after i finish the existing games cannot play such an ugly connect the dots type of map and will seriously debate continuing my membership when the time comes around.
