I'd agree with the Kiwis. Excepting N. Korea or Honduras, would you pick New Zealand to beat anyone in the competition? Serbia and Switzerland are at least known for being strong defensive teams.

I held 20 mns watching Paraguay-Slovakia and the second half on Italy-New Zealand, man this group F is definitely the most boring of all. Italians lazily tried, they could have scored, just as they could be eliminated next game. They don't seem too comfortable with being left the ball and building their offensives in any case... As many others Gilardino seems to suffer a complete burn out, being replaced at half time in this one, after a terrific season for Fiorentina.
I hope Cote d'Ivoire-Brazil will be a good show at least, gonna be a physical duel I reckon. They seem to have a much sturdier defense than other african teams, not really buying Drogba being in shape enough to shine though.
Yesterday's Japan-Netherlands confirmed my impressions that Netherlands, while qualified, won't go further than quarter finals as usual, and Japan could have well deserved a draw. That beach ball sucked badly in that one, ruining this WC way more than vuvuzelas so far IMO...
Meanwhile the french team is on strike, I'm partaken between the ridiculousness of it all and the amusement of seeing their horrible campaign turn into a soap opera

Oh well, at least it'll be a good opportunity to cut many heads after it's finally over for them

I guess nobody saw the USA/Slovenia game where Donovan's well placed free kick
generated a goal to make it 3-2 (after trailing 0-2 at half) only to see it waved off
and no penalties to the defenders who wrapped their arms around the Americans.
Glad to get this token BS out of the way. In Korea it was a German defender's
handball standing in the goal... and now this choice piece of referee work.
Watched Italy-New Zealand... Kiwi goal keeper was spectacular saving the draw.
The Italians had way too many opportunities to take this one late in the match
and couldn't

Indeed! What a year for the Kiwis.

All controversy about the Kiwi goal being offside put to one side, they played a thoroughly resolute game, and were good value. Congrats to them for keeping their World Cup alive - perhaps England could take a few tips from you!

This would be the most football i have ever watched - i know it's called 'the beautiful game' and all that but really - whats with the diving stuff...........surely it's a blight on the game.

Has anyone seen the replay of Kaka's second yellow card? This is the kind of thing that gives football a bad name. What a pathetic excuse for a man Keita of Ivory Coast is, I hope he loses sleep about his lowlife cheating tonight.
Kader Keita should get punished for his unforgivable swindling, and Kaka has his second yellow card removed. Absolutely ludicrous...

Should we go over Findley's yellow too and tell them to remove that abomination of a call?
Perhaps we should count the goal as well.

Is it just Keita you want punished or every cheating swindler, and that would include a few brazilians...

Yes, that is correct, unless he can get the second yellow overturned by appealing to FIFA. It's fairly obvious that he didn't deserve this second yellow...

No, I want every cheating swindler punished. Football is not a place for underhand deceit of those who want to play a fair game. There was also some pretty disgusting play going on earlier by the Italians, it look all to suspiciously like they were trying to get New Zealand's striker a second yellow card - each time he contested a header with an Italian defender they would go to ground like a wimp, clutching their greasy faces. It's really sickening, in all honestly.

Can yellows really be reversed?
(Like technical fouls in basketball)

I think so, but only in extreme cases. I think Brazil have a good shout for having Kaka's second yellow overturned.

It must be nice to know that, no matter how much the English are self-destructing at these finals, the French are doing it worse.
Of the limited reading I've done on the situation so far, the Wall Street Journal's opening paragraph wins, hands down.
The Wall Street Journal wrote:We were flabbergasted by the news that the French World Cup soccer team refused to practice on Sunday. Like most soccer fans, we had absolutely no idea the French team had been practicing at all.

A joke, but that whole part of a game was a joke with all the fighting like little girls, IC did put on a show to get KAKA in trouble obviously, which is sad but all football players pull this baby act... I seriously don't think Kaka will be allowed to play against Portugal as in i don't think FIFA will reverse this red card.
I like how Drogba played middle man, almost like he tried to help Kaka out... bunch of babies in the end...
