I think that the point is this: If Iran says that they are going to wipe Israel off the map, then finds itself at the bargaining table with the President, then their presence there is predicated on a threat of acts of war. this gives bargaining power to your threats and allows Iran to use that threat as leverage in getting what you want from the US.

Here is where it gets interesting. So lets assume that the doors are closed, and talks begin, when the doors open, out come 2 nations with an agreement that Iran will not use nuclear technology. What was the reason behind the agreement. That there were threats made against Israel? Did you catch that? the strongest military and economic power on the earth just got strong armed by a threat to one of our allies. Globally, this makes us weak, threats will abound everywhere as other nations seek to get what they want based on threats, whether empty of wholly viable.

At least, this is how I understand it.

I missed the first half an hour but i thought it was relatively even.

i thought Obama did drop the ball a little when they were having the "dead soldiers bracelet" cock-measuring contest. While McCain rather expertly reiterated his longer experience within the legislature, in response Obama forgot his dead- soldiers name and fumbled.

It may be that judgement on McCain is suffering more from him being part of the Republican Government who presided over the US financial melt-down.
It could also be a little like the Kennedy v Nixon showdown: Nixon won on Radio, Kennedy won on TV.

How many of these televised debates are planned?
I read somewhere that this is the first one therefore i expect there are more to follow. Correct?

Be honest - do you know anyone who ever thought "when I grow up, I want to be a politician, and actually change the way my country is run, rather than the alternative of, say, just getting paid for doing little more than showing up at the occasional local do and maybe attending parliament if it's not too much bother and isn't too far away from my constituency"?

My thinking exactly. Bush's enemies are many right now, if someone hasn't come close to him, why would anyone get that close to Obama without help from the Republican NeoCons?
