Eh? So how would it look like then Einstein?
As far as I know the fourth dimension is time. :?

I say we take it one step further.

I say: Search on Hypercube on any of the image search sites (I prefer live.com) and you will find images of a cube within a cube. Pretty much like this one. The yellow balls form the inner cube. Then if that SYMBOLIZES a 4th dimension, that discussion I leave for more initiated minds.

It looks like this only with infinite amounts of squares inside.

Well, doesnt that remind you guys and dolls about The HyperCUBE?

I guess I better get started on the XML.

isn't a hypercube a 4 dimensional cube? the only way to implement that in c&c (because last time I checked, the internet was 2d) you would need to have the map constantly moving and that would only be a three dimensional cube... unless you did a three dimensional representation of a four dimensional cube... hmmm.... I think there was an apod on this...
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap070318.html
yaa.. so other people already said something about this... but APOD clears all... a hyper cube isn't a cube in a cube. That is just incorrect.
time is one dimension, not necessarily the fourth one. As you can see in that apod, time is the 3rd dimension.

cool map though

Yes the cube here isn't a hypercube, but it isn't meant to be. It's just a name to show how it adds another whole dimension to Risking. And its supposed to sound all futuristic.

I just thought it was a cube in a cube :D

maybe just call it Cube?

one requirement of a map progressing is that there needs to be a significant level of interest. I fear that this map, if forged, won't see very much play... what say you all??

i would play this map though i dont like how it looks now,

and maybe you can make the legend in images that way it will be more clear

I think people are interested in seeing this map done. Im just so darn lazy, so the xml hasnt been done yet.

i just wanted to mention that a hypercube is a 4d cube >_>

I'm still waiting to hear from all of the fans of this map - i know there are some out there, but I'd like to see more feedback going into making this map forge-able. My concern is that the interest just isn't there - you all should prove me wrong!

I'll start by doing my part, though it's tough because I believe that much of the discussion that went into creating this map is elsewhere... there has to be more than three pages of comments, yes?

For starters, the small map is too big. Getting it down to 600pixels will be a challenge given that it's already tough to follow the connections on the small map as it is.

The type face is fun, but it gets a bit fuzzy especially in the small map.

The circles: are you calling them territories, or balls? Because both are used in the legend, which is confusing.

A serif font for the territory labels will make the "I"s easier to read.

Where the bars come together in some cases it is hard to tell which is in the foreground. For instance, where F2-F3 crosses B2-C2. Is this an optical illusion, or can the opacity of the outside of the bars be bumped up?

This may also be an optical illusion, but are all of the yellow balls the same color? And for us color blind players, you should consider making the two ball colors more distinct from each other.

you got to work on graphics first, the XML can come later

Speaking of 4D once this one comes out and people start enjoying it, Which I will. I hope to see a 4D cube come out. probably couldn't make it any bigger then 3X3X3X3 though.

How would you make a 4D thing in a 2D surface?

I'll quote myself. The very first line in the very first post in this thread:

This thread is a continuing of the SPLIT UP thread [Split Up] The CUBE, The CUBOID & HyperCUBE - attack in 3D. (Locked thread.)

As for the rest. As I see it the design is done. Balls, territories, its the same, people know that. And the colors. Its hard to tweak it any more. I have tried multiple versions already. I even did 2 other versions of the cube, one 3*3*3, and one 5*3*3.

If anyone wants to help me and do the XML that would be great. I admit it, I am darn lazy.

If you're looking for feedback to move this one forward, I'll throw my hat in the "I'll play it" ring!

I'd prefer this map to get finished first – to let the 3D awesomeness sink in and whatnot.

I'd really like to play this too. It looks fun.

Also I'm willing to help out with XML if you still need someone.

And yeah, the Hypercube is actually a 4 dimensional object.

Consider a point (0D), copy it, move away and connect them - a line (1d) now copy it, move away and connect the respective corners - a square (2d) now copy it and connect the respective corners - a cube (3d), now copy it and connect all the respective corners (hard to visualise, I know) - that's a hypercube, in 4D.

on a different note... would the word "face" or "panel" be more appropriate than "quadrant"? Then the concept of 6 faces making a cube should be reasonably familiar... unless you guys use different words in the states.

Bonuses:
Each quadrant (=4 balls connected in a square) is worth 1 bonus. There are 108 possible combinations of quadrants.
Each yellow center balls included in a quadrant is worth 1 additional bonus. There are 8 yellow center balls.
6 quadrants (8 balls) connected to a small cube (a Minicube) is worth 3 additional bonus.

Okay, i've started doing the XML for this, and I'm doing up continents...

Based on this current rule, which I'm reading as "You still get the quadrant bonuses, and you also get +3 added on to this". Then the middle cube, where each panel is worth 5 (1 + 4 for yellow balls), and 6 panels, +3, is worth 33 armies!!!

A little over the top... This "tripling up" on yellow ball bonuses for quadrants/cubes happens for other mini cubes as well (tho to a lesser extent).

What I propose is instead of this, we say that each Minicube is worth 10 bonuses, which override/replace the quadrant bonuses... And then you get +1 per yellow ball.

This would give:
Corner minicube worth 11 to hold. (up from 9, counting the yellow ball 3 times)
Middle Side Minicube is worth 12 (same as 12)
Middle Face Minicube is worth 14 (rather than 18 )
Middle Middle Minicube is worth 18 (rather than 33)

How does that sound?

Acutally now looking at that... it seems that by conncting the cube you actually -lose- out... hmm.. maybe the +3 is the only way to go, but it creates INCREDIBLY large bonus values.... will not be good for gameplay imho.

Looking at the losses, the most you can hold in a minicube is 3 faces before you get the last dot and make it a whole minicube...

So - (best possible scenarios)
Corner: using the yellow ball - 2+2+2 = 6, you go up to 11.
Mid-side: 3+3+2 = 8, you go up to 12 by finishing cube (1 ball)
Mid-Face: 5+3+3 = 11, you go up to 14 by finishing cube (1 ball)
Mid-Mid: 5+5+5 = 15, you go up to 18 by finishing cube (1 ball)

Okay, so I've completed the xml for this (using the above changes, but I can easily change that again if necessary)

I haven't got anywhere to host it, Paul, could I e-mail it to you and you host it somewhere? Or could I send it to a cartographer to look over and check?

Please pm me with e-mail addy or add me to msn (see profile)

go to sendspace.com and host the file there. that's where i host mine and so far i've had no problem.
