Trolling by definition requires a trigger to anger other people. That trigger is pain. It's like Bogangod mentions "butt hurt", a pejorative term often associated to victims of trolling, yet still a reference to the core of the issue "hurt".

I posted this a while ago, pointing out the high correlation of some nasty disorders among internet trolls:

I just told my wife. She completely ignored me and continued reviewing our shopping history at Kohls. Not sure she's taking this as seriously as she ought.

Have been making a little study of trolling of late. Learning what not to do, Bernie & DSOIV. Learning what to do from Owen, who is in the top 3 trolls I've ever observed. Another trigger for trolling is greed. The amount of people that will follow meaningless stupid links in the hope of getting something for nothing.

The interesting question is why do trolls become trolls. Owen suggests he became a troll because of the doxing and hate he got here on this site. Me thinks he is playing a violin with skill.

Well obviously most people here who troll or follow trolls do so in compensation behaviour. To me trolling is about the same as actual bullying; trying to target those who are most sensitive or mentally weak, poke fun at them, gang up on them, try to trigger a mental breakdown and then act as if they didn't actually meant to hurt anyone. The only difference is that a troll is a cowardly bully. Instead of venting his emotions IRL and risk real repercussions, he hides behind his anonimity.
