I don't think a bunch of unarmed 14-18 year olds were really going to be able to stop dude who had an assault rifle, a sniper rifle and a semi-automatic glock.

how do you know he had these weapons? i might have missed it.

It was in one of the reports I saw, so it is not guaranteed obviously.

He must have had some serious firepower, though, to kill at least 80 people.

Wow.... just that easy eh? Charge into the bullets with enough people that he can't shoot em all?

I'm not sure your thinking there is...rational....

Just sayin' is all.

f*ck off for a bit J9B- I can't be particularly nice to you while you're accusing a bunch of dead kids of cowardice even as their bodies are being found and identified. I've been up all night talking to friends in the country.

Not my most eloquent post, but take a moment, no?

A tremendous story about a guy who drove his boat to Utoya to rescue kids from the shoreline:

You're a cunt and an idiot to boot. Oops, guess I'm automatically wrong in this argument.

Do you have any idea of just how deadly quick firing weapons could be? A guy with a WW1 machine gun, camped on a hill, could take a 1000 people or so. Granted he wouldn't be able to chase after them, but the Norwegian gunner did have somewhat more advanced weaponry.

You're trying to deny that accusing them of cowardice, but your question is exactly the same as asking a rape victim why they didn't fight back.

But I'm sure, you using your fabled logic would've been able to defeat a gunman unarmed and single handedly.

I've updated the original post!
My condolences to everyone in Norway! I must say the cause and the person who did it couldn't have surprised me more! I'm guessing he was waiting for the Prime Minister to show up on the island since he was scheduled to be there later in the day! But when the Prime minister didn't show up he decided to kill the kids instead! Awful awful story and very surprising! When you think of terrorist attacks you don't think of christian far right conservatives and most certainly not a single person being able to kill almost 100 people! He must've received some military training and of course be a complete psychopath! Why is it always the lone psycho who commits things like this? Olof Palme (Swedish Prime Minister) was shot by a lone drunk (at least that's what they say) and Anna Lindh Swedish Foreign Minister was knifed by a man claiming to hear voices! Don't be surprised if this guy claimed to not remember anything of the event! Then of course we've got Kennedy and a lot of similar events! Again my condolences to everyone directly affected by this psycho!!

This man is the most hated man in the world today!!! more about him: http://mg.co.za/article/2011-07-23-ande ... a-presence http://www.latimes.com/news/la-fgw-norw ... 8483.story

Sad days this is. I had both my sisters in Oslo at the time – one of them two blocks away from the government building when it happened. Scary as hell.

It was clearly political since it targets a government building containing the office of the prime minister! Well it's not really hard to get hold of young government hating left wing bordering communists bums in Scandinavia!

It is very clear that you are a completely clueless little idiot. You must be living a sheltered life in some southern suburb still sucking your mommas tits.
There are plenty of right-wing extremists even in our city. Unfortunately they are not all little cowards like you who sit and hate on an internet forum. I wish they were all as pathetic as you.

It was indeed a neo-nazi or an extreme right-wing nationalist targeting a youth camp for a party that is left-wing/socialist and which the prime minister also is the leader of.

..it is truly disgusting using a tragedy to spill your fearmongering hate.. You are a quisling to the scandinavian model of a democratic society.

Well said ballong.

Hey, on a cheerier note – imagine this guy with brown hair instead. Fox Mulder.

EIGHTY FOUR DIED, likely more becuase ONE MAN was so insane he wanted to blame multiculturalism for every ill in Norway.

I aint justifying shit! are you F'n kidding me? The only thing I think about that is we don't know the distance. If the shooter was far away, no chance for them to stop him. If the shooter was up close, hell yes it's possilbe 14-18 year old could have stopped him. Granted they would need to be in a Flight 77 kind of mindframe, where they knew they were going to die.

MY comment of "good point" is because, while asking for more information, out of 100's of people someone should have had a gun. This is a perfect example where the "fantasy" of a law abiding gun owner shooting the attacker could have saved many many lives. I am still asking if guns are banned in Norway

You can't compare the cramped and crowded close space of an airplane cabin to an open outdoors situation.

Also, Norway only had 29 murders last year, maybe the lack of guns there has something to do with this.

I did not compare the physical locations. I compared the state of mind.

So guns are illegal?

The death count is now up to 94, if that interests anyone... and all accounts say it will likely grow. They don't yet have a total for all the missing.

Guns are not illegal if you have permission! But it's not as easy to get permission in Norway as it is in the US! Self defense is not enough of a reason to get a permission! Hunting and sports are two valid reasons but to protect yourself in your home is not!

That's your failure, because the physical locations would absolutely affect the state of mind.

i guess i assumed that the gunman didn't have an automatic weapon, because norway specifically prohibits them. my apologies. i am just tired of hearing columbine-esque stories where some asshole with a pistol/rifle instantly turns into this unstoppable juggernaut because people aren't willing to take a stand. it's human nature.

that being said, norwegian gun control laws hardly did anything to stop this guy.

where is thornheart when you need him?

One of the killer's blogs will give you a good insight on his motives and psyche, fanatical anti-muslim/immigrant. He posted under "fjordman". I wonder if it's going to be shut down soon:
