Hello everyone,

I'm Darrell -- the creator of LandGrab.

I just received an email asking why I allow stolen maps on my site.

After doing a quick google search I found this thread.

Needless to say, I'm quite disheartned to find that these guys (Kyle, etc) have been pilfering maps from CC.

I'm going to take them offline immediatly.

I also see that I'm going to need to put moderation around LandGrab's map creation utility so that this doesn't happen again.

Again -- Sorry for this.

Well, isn't that nice? A formal apology and a promise to make it better...now if he follows through, we'll be all set. No war needed... (DAMN  )

I believe I've removed all of the CC maps, but I'm not sure of these two -- can you tell me if these are CC maps?

The first one is a direct scan from the 2210 AD map... not sure of the legality regarding that one.

And the second one could have been our Canada map at one time, but it's been changed up enough that it's not the same map anymore.

Hello all,

Thanks again for you help and patience.

I'm hoping that this should solve the problem:

thats darrel, but like you said with the star wars stuff, if you actually created them from scratch, they are yours, even if you did use the hasbro games as a referance, if they were created by you i.e. you drew em out from nothing, no scanning etc, it's yours. even if it almost completely resembles theirs, you made it. Some changes might be good to do to it, otherwise i believe it's fine, the community will correct me if I am wrong (i probably am).

anyhow, thanks!

Well I guess that email I sent did some good. And I'm glad that the owner is doing the right thing and taking the maps down. We've got to protect the hard work the people on our site are doing.

I'm not exactly sure what would entail copyright infringement. I made the tamriel map, and i contacted Bethesda Softworks and asked for permission. They didn't give me permission, but they responded with something along the lines of so long as we are given proper credit there shouldn't be a problem. so i just put something in saying inspired by bethesda's tamriel. Also the coin i used was straight off their site, so i cited that...sorta...as best as i thought would be fitting for a map.

Did anyone check to see if they actually took the maps down?

... Damn! I leave the country for a week or so and all this stuff goes down when I'm nowhere near a connected computer!

... I was robbed, ready to kill and pike some heads... then this guy from LandGrab comes on here being all nice and professional... and now I don't know what to do with my adreneline (sp?) rush! HaHa!! (... maybe I'll go find some punk kid with an attitude problem and teach him some manners... with a baseball bat  )

... All's well that ends well, eh. Thanks for the posts of support. Conquer Club has some good people.

... Cheers.

Ok, i'm back. Here's why i did it. I like conquer club and landgrab both. I like conquer club's maps but landgrabs game play is alot easier and more towards that of risk. I figured that the nice people of conquer club wouldnt mind if i borrowed some of their maps, since they all signed at the bottom so they were given adequate credit i thought. But i guess you guys are more possessive over your maps than i thought and i apologize for putting them on there. I do recommend some gameplay changes though. Like every terrotory starting iwth 3 armies, that drives me insane.

Yeah, looking back on it that woulda been a good idea. I just don't want everyone hating me because i know diplomacy is a big thing in risk.
