Sorry we haven't posted your review sooner, time for myself and thenobodies has been at a premium.

Well... You've got an unique surface to play on, but finding a theme that fits it is going to be difficult. The space theme.... not going to work. The only thing I can connect between space and a cube is the Borg from Star Trek... I urge you to try something different. Something shappy perhaps, cones, cylinders, etc? A fractal? A classroom chalk board?

A gray chalkboard could maybe work.

There has been no update since the last fortnightly review. If there is no update by the mapmaker by the next fortnightly review in roughly 2 weeks this map will be considered stalled and moved to the Recycling bin.

I have been trying to find a background that could work, but so far I have not been satisfied.
If you or anyone else has a picture to donate that could work as a background then that would be welcome.

I still think a fractal might be a good way to go here

Hmm... I don't think that frame & blackboard really works, because it doesn't have any depth... You'd need a background that supports the 3d-aspect of the map.

I am tearing my hair out to try to find that background. If you could give me any images to try out with, I would really appreciate it.
The good thing about a solid background is that it makes it easier to focus on the map. So even if the chalk board background is rather "dull" it works in that aspect.

I can try to draw something.

I try to look at this and my brain melts. I'm pretty sure no background is going to make this legible/tolerable. I wish I had better news, I would enjoy being proven wrong, but I do not like this map anyway.

Ok here's a try... if this doesn't work I have some more ideas...

For a background to make this map have "depth" the background will have to have layers. At least in my opinion. Why not make this a kids monkeybar gym and have kids in the background and foreground as the artwork? well something like that. The artwork would add the "Depth" when the kids are layered in.

I think its a great Idea... I like the smaller version better, but can see myself playing this one .

here's another similar one.. let me know if you don't like these I can do something different too.

That sound right; anything that could display depth could only help. Right now it is just all in your face, I see a bunch of criss-crossed lines not a 3D box.

Natty, I don't think adding a swirling paradox in the background of a mind-bending line-cube-thing is going to help anyone's eyes ;)

I was just trying to do something with a little depth perspective. Redbaron suggested fractals earlier, so I started working from fractals (julia & mandelbrot) then overlapping them, twisting, distorting, texture-mapping them on a 3d cylinder, etc etc. and those are what I ended up with.

Well, if they don't work, then I guess that's that and it was worth a shot, I'll see if I can come up with something better.

ps. did you notice that the 2nd picture actually uses the 1st picture as a texture, which is mapped onto a cylinder shape? Funny what you can do with a relatively simple gfx software...

The idea of depth is all well and good, but making the image look like an LSD trip isn't the way to go I don't think.

Also, the lines should be the things having depth.

Aren't you a bit young to be doing acid? ;) (jk lol)

Anywho, did you see how the cube looked on top of that blackboard image? When it's pasted on top of a flat image the cube also loses all sense of depth. So the background should have some measure of depth as well, to support the cube image.

I'm going to add more fuel to the fire. O:)
Since you're already working on a new background, I suggest you also to aim for something more color-blind friendly.
Vischeck results aren't so good...

I mean seriously have some friggin monkeys or kids (same thing?) swinging on the bars...

I dunno, use the 3d theme you have revolutionary introduced, and dont just throw in a friggin background... put stuff in the foreground middle ground and background. 3d depth on a 2d screen is just a matter of tricking the mind, and you can do this with simple artwork all over the place.

lol.
I'll post the photoshop file here for download.
I am mostly interested in getting this map into play, I'm not so hung up on the graphics.
I probably already have spent over 300 hours on this map...
