Would've loved it if you had put quotes to substantiate that because I don't have the time to walk through D1 right now. I will, though. (I should also add that I didn't find Pix scummy apart from his lack of participation which he blamed on RL.)
I get an odd feeling that Votanic is talking a lot about the film and the what ifs rather than looking at people's gameplay, but it's only something that I've just picked up based on this post below:

Looks like a kill from the scene. Kinda obvious, too. Why would you think it was a modkill?
Mostly because there seemed to be a consensus that all town players were Vanilla... and the Thing would presumably convert a player, not kill him.
Actually, the Thing in the movie does kill just as often as he converts, but never with fire. In fact, fire was only used by the humans to kill the Thing.
The two characters in the movie that I recall using flamethrowers were MacReady and Childs...
Also, it does seem a little odd for a vigilante player to target Pixar, though I suppose lack of participation is generally considered scummy.
I don't know that there was a consensus about only VTs in the game... And then there's the "this stuff happens in the film". It rubs me the wrong way as a way of posting without saying anything. Votanic does, however, give his take on Pix.
Ragian, take the time to watch the movie. Besides being a great film, it will also show you what inspired DDS to make this game. Of course, he must have changed many things, but some of the movie will be in the game mechanics. Do I think I'll find concrete answers there, No, I do not, but it actually feels more grounded than a lot of the fatuous scum-tells being bandied about.
The only two people that stand out as 'extra special' to me are Sonic for his too-scummy-to be scum (or not*) play style and dega for being blood-tested, but that was yesterday. Still don't get why Traf or EW are considered extra scummy by some.
*If Sonic does turn out to be the Thing and gets away with it because nobody though it was worth BTing him, I will face-palm myself hard enough to give myself a concussion, therefore:
BT Sonic
As for the vigilante, if there is a vigilante (and evidence suggests there is), he doesn't have particularly good aim, at least so far. That's totally understandable, but if town wants to be cautious about lynches it should also encourage the vigilante to not be reckless either. I wonder if he has a limited number of flame thrower uses? ...and I also wonder if he still would have that power if converted? A scary thought, but doubtful ...though in the movie (yes, that again) nothing stops the Thing from using human weapons.

Well, I've seen the film, and I have played flavoured mafia before. You won't win the game by guessing what the mod has used. It's just flavour. You even agree that you won't find any clues in it. So leave it and look at people's play.
You want to BT Sonic just because you don't want to lose to him? Weak. I'm on your case now.

On page 3 there is a post from you that says you didn't see the movie, which I remembered, and is why I thought you had not seen the movie. I guess you just saw the movie??
That will be your answer I'm sure, unless you want to be caught in a fib
...and who would want that?
Anyway, I would ask how you liked it, but I'm sure you would use that against me, so nevermind.
I fully get that 'flavor' doesn't always matter, but also remember, the reason there is a Thing, a blood test, character names to claim, and a guy with a flame thrower, be he MacReady or not, is because this particular game is based on that film. So obviously,
sometimes flavor does matter.
