Well I can't give you the answer can I lol.
Okay how about this then:
He was not well known at the time he lived. Only recently did he become well known. This is a big clue if you can figure it out.

Hmm...it's been a while with no questions. I think maybe you picked one that's too hard. It definitely helps if they're known for their profession, since without that, there isn't much to go off of to identify them.

Hmm...he wasn't Roman, British or French.

Was he German?

Well ask some questions then man! We obviously need some help here.

As for your question, he probably didn't think it was serious.

He wasn't alive in the 20th century so no he wasn't in 1980. Did you mean 1890?

I'll give you guys another clue. He died a long time ago.

Yeh, typo that. I think I meant 1800.

Just want to make sure that my words aren't being written to the wind; I always read through the discussion that I've missed, to understand where we're at :D

Died a long time ago and was only well known after death: Was he a famous fossil?
Or maybe he assassinated someone... (not a question)

19) Was he alive in the common era? No (I interpreted "common era" as AD. Let me know if that wasn't what you meant.)
20) Is it Tollund Man? No, but a good guess!

Looks like I beat the questioners :D !!
Okay, are you ready to hear who I was thinking of? *A solid "Yes!" is heard from the audience.*
Okay okay, take it easy guys. I was thinking of........

Ötzi the Iceman
, Europes oldest mummy. He died 3255 BC, 5267 years ago. He was not famous for his occupation. He was either a miner or a shepheard. Or both. We don't know for sure. He lived in the italian alps but I wouldn't call him a roman ;). He was discovered in 1991, and as late as this year (2012) blood cells were discovered in his body. He's the oldest human where intact blood cells still exist.
The cause of his death is still not certain, but we know he was murded. He received an arrow in his shoulder shortly before his death, and either bled to death or was put down by a rock to his head. Unconfimred sources says his lucky number was 5!
I gave some clues along the way, first I hinted that it was hard to guess who he is by asking questions related to his occupation. Then I said he died a long time ago. Which might even be understatement lol.
The final clue I gave was that he was not well known at the time he lived. Only recently did he become well known (1991).
That clue seemed to be of use because x-raider immediately asked if he was a famous fossil.
At that point I thought for sure you guys would end up guessing it right! But too many questions had been asked about his occupation and nationality. "Tollund Man" was as close as you got.

I think a different questioning strategy would have enabled you to get this one as well. Asking questions related to when he lived would have quickly showed that he lived long before christ, and I think around question 15 or 16 you would've guessed it right. There are after all not that many well known people from Europe who lived 3000 BC.

Since no one guessed who I was thinking of I'll just pick another mummy...I mean "person" :). I don't think I chose someone who was too unknown, he was just nothing like what we've picked before.

Okay, I'm thinking of someone.

I can't speak for anybody else, but I would have never guessed that. I had honestly never even heard of him before now.

Oh well, moving on...

Is it a man?

and...

Is he/she alive today?
