whatever do you mean jay?
of course we (the west - not just the conservative party in the US) are running after the "black gold". we don't give a toss for what happens in a country in lets say Africa, but if the oil is threatened we are storming down to "save and liberate"... plz... to deny this is just pulling up those famous blind folds again.
The fight for resources will only escalate - and with the rate we are polluting in some parts of the world, pure drinking water will soon join oil and gold on the most wanted list for many.

It all makes sense now....
WORLD DOMINATION! That's what we concervatives are all about don't ya know!

lol - oki jay - take your best shot at China. I dare you
They are going to make the old Sovjetunion (if you think about "enemies" that is) look like a mastodon when they are finsihed growing (if they will ever finish)... talk about some real economic power! Wow.
Just give them 10-15 years down the road and they will pretty much decide everything from oilprices, goldprices to interest rates - everywhere.
When China booms - the world booms. When China stagnates - the world stagnates. This will be the tune some years from now.
And their prime weapon isn't presiscion bombing or fancy weaponry - its economics and finances. Much more scary than some old tanks in the former Eastern Block if you ask me.
I have no doubts China will be THE world superpower if they aren't already... they have an army of over 200 million (2/3 of the entire population of the US)

Now I know in europe you have always had high gas prices but PLEASE explain to me why I'm paying $3.00/ gal for gas when pre-Iraq war it was under $2/gal.????? If this war was about OIL I want a full investigation on why the gas prices are so high? Give me a break...we all know oil will be depleated in 20 -50 years so why fight for it...why not just find an alternative?

The problem is today - not in 20-30 years. Today we need oil because there is no alternative energy source that can replace it - and there will not be for many years to come. So oil is still the number one most important natural resource.
As for high energy prices (and other commodities) you can always ask Greenspan why he stared the money printing press and inflated the dollar to such vast amounts that the commodities only could rise - there where no other way they could go, since most of them are traded in US dollar.
The amount of dollar in the world has increased enormously since the year 2000. At the same time he also lowered the interest rates - this is what I like to call a "Pump and Pressure" strategy. Pump in lower interest rates and increase the flow of money - and build up pressure and growth. Only trouble was that at the same time the demand for oil, copper, gold etc also increased in the rest of the world (esp. China) - making this twice as bad regarding the prices for commodities - and they just went skyhigh.
This was the short version... the long one is the size of a book so better not post it here I think.

If we had a standard to our money other than using the values of other currencies, we'd have lower prices for everything.
One ounce of gold is worth over $600 now. Why not make one dollar=1 oz. of gold?
Then everything would be worth the same, it would just take less banknotes to make the transaction.
Instead of "This dollar is worth one dollar" we'd all be a lot more well off. "Well, your rent before the change 600 dollars, now it's a dollar."
JOY!
Then again, maybe my economics and/or my math is messed up...

just kidding - its not just that simple marik. Would be nice if it was though - but then again I would be out of a job so lets keep it complicated shall we?
But read my signature - maybe, just maybe - someday. Keep dreaming. You never know! Thats my motto anyway

I'm surprised a republican thinks that oil will be depleated. In fact, it probably won't be, considering there's a possibility that even more oil will be found once the polar ice caps melt in the next 20 - 50 years.
The reason gas is so high, is because the "green" movement is starting to eat into oil's profits. So they raise the price to stave off the hit.

It's a bit scary when one country thinks of people of another country as an army, instead of as individuals. I'm sure all 200 million won't fight.

education is not limited to any party. But I tell you what, the day my kids come home and say they were shown how to use a condom via BANANA...is the day they will see the wrath of jay_a2j!
And get this! I just gotta tell this story of going to my kids parent/teacher conference. We are sitting there (me and my wife) with one of my kids teachers whenmy wife voices concern about my kid failing her grade. The teacher responds by saying, "I don't see that happening. But whats really important is that she grows up a health and good citizen"
WHAT????? So it doesn't matter if they can't READ there diploma...just so long as they are "healthy and a good citizen" ?????? This is yet another example of how the left lacks common sense! It makes me sick! I had to bite my tounge as my kids were in the room.
Why didn't you just calmly tell her what you thought? She's your kid, not hers.

I didn't miss your response jay, but still think its a bit sad if that is your way of reasoning and reflecting regarding other people...not everybody shoots at first sight - even if they are holding a gun... just some folks from the desert in Texas does that (not naming names here so don't try and make me)

The alternative method for learning this is worse I think (replace banana with human)... then I would go teacher-hunting too.
A condom and a banana --- can't really see myself getting all worked up about it. Must say that I don't really see this as part of schools natural domain either. Parents should take care of such knowledge - the birds and the bies...
In Europe there is a severe problem with disciplin in school - teach them that instead. Many kids will simply be losers when they later hit the job market because they have no disciplin. Its a necessary skill to possess - without it no one will hire you.
