I shot a coyote today. There have been a few of them that have been going in and out of the backyard for a while. I heard my dog growl, got my dad's hunting rifle and shot one of them. I got him in the leg and the other 2 ran off into the thicket. I had to shoot him again as the first shot hadn't killed him. We're going to have him tested for rabies. We don't think he has it but can never be too careful.

It's time for strike's quote of the day.

Today's quote comes from a movie that most of us are probably familiar with. And here it is:

"I've never seen sugar do that"

Strike's quote of the day has been brought to you by the wolf/curl campaign.

I encountered a nice quote today - by Rita Rudner, a stand-up comedienne you used to see on the box a lot, but who'd disappered these days so far as I can see.

It's about moving house.

"Joni Mitchell says "You don't know wha you've got 'til it's gone." I disagree. You don't know what you've got 'til you move.

I would say no on both accounts. LEG failed to really get the depth it needed for that movie and Connery is not the best actor of all time. As for who is, I'm not really sure so I'll go with the cop out answer of John Wayne.

Maybe we should all nominate someone for the best actor of all time. Obviously my vote shall be excluded from this process.

Well, just that we crossed the Atlantic. So there were other issues than just new house, new schools, new job, etc.

Ummm...
Judi Dench?
Peter Sellers?
I'm a big fan of Burt Lancaster, but that's cos he could act and he made the sort of films I love (good, not too cerebral swashbucklers).
I think the award for best acting moment ever probably has to go to Patrick McGoohan, for his role as King Edward in Breveheart. He's lying in bed, after a stroke, dying, and manages to express precisely his emotion at the news about where William Wallace scattered his seed.

Oh, in other news, I just swapped my second copy of Meddle (I ended up getting 2 for Christmas) for Highway to Hell by AC/DC. The funny thing is that my dad asked me why I didn't get one from when Bon was still alive (usually he's very good about knowing the history of rock but I guess he slipped up on this one).

Haven't listened to Highway to Hell yet, but am really enjoying Meddle. Echoes is excellent.

Highway To Hell gets 2 thumbs up out of 2.

Right now I would rank Meddle as 9.6 out of 10. Of course I'm not overly picky. I have Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Quadrophenia and Tommy all ranked a perfect 10 out of 10.

As for songs
Time 10/10
Comfortably Numb 10/10
Highway to Hell 10/10
Back in Black 9/10
Baba O'Reilly (despite being over played) 10/10
Pinball Wizard 9.9/10
Wish you were here 10/10
Echoes 10/10
Hotel California 10/10
One of These Nights 10/10
Us and Them 10/10
Eclipse 10/10
Brain Damage 9.8/10
Sweet Child O' Mine 10/10
Welcome to the Jungle 9.7/10
Paradise City 8.8/10
Black Hole Sun 10/10.

It's time for strike's album of the day.

Today's album is Highway to Hell. Why Highway to Hell? Well AC/DC tells me I don't need a reason so that's why.

This has been sponsored by the wolf/curl campaign.

I think 2009 will be a year of silliness. We're due for a silly year. The entire decade of the 90's was naught but silly. Then we have 2000 to the present which have been way too serious. With tough economic times and a new president we're primed for silliness. It doesn't cost $ and it's a good release from stress. Now to get things started here's a completely unrelated photo:

I don't know with all the crazy political scandals. I think things have already started to get silly in a serious way.

It's time for strike's movie of the day.

Today's movie

Sweeney Todd. Not sure what to make of this movie. I was watching it and kind of enjoying the odd quirkiness of it all before I think I missed something crucial and got a little lost as far as plot goes. In the end, I really don't know if I like it or not.
