1 small thing - you spelt "Honour" wrong.

whats a blinder?

and Honor is the .... american? .... way to spell it?
I'm not quite sure how to explain...
Its kinda like color vs colour.
Two different ways to spell the same word.

a) Blinder = http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=blinder

b) This is a Canadian Website - Canadians can spell correctly - thus we use "Honour" instead of "Honor"

If you enter Honour into Dictionary.com, it redirects you to Honor.

hon·our
–noun, verb (used with object), adjective Chiefly British.
honor.

I'm sticking with honor.

Every last reputable dictionary or other source will tell you that both honor and honour are correct. If Lack wants the spelling to be Canadian/British to be consistent -- fine. But don't go around saying the "-or" ending is just wrong. No -- you are wrong, and there's no arguing about it. Now please stop this before I give in to the temptation to flame you. Plus, I normally respect what you do and what you've done for this site -- don't ruin my image of you now.

anyway back on topic a small version still needs to be done :-^

I am certain that our brothers up north are excellent spellers... of course, they can't quite decide on whether or not they are "Canadians" or "Canadiens" but whatever. It's a grey area for Canucks... or is it a gray area? Anyway, if there is a word with two correct spellings, I say we leave it to the mapmaker to decide. And if somebody comes up with a better solution I'll buy them a donut... er, doughnut.

OK, I hope that got the thread hijacking out of everybody's system. Back to the map.

I like the suggestion of having both the direction AND unique numbers in the territory titles. In fact, you could go a step further and number everything 1-91, and include a NW, NE, SW, or SE in the title of each in the XML. This would give every territory a unique number, and give a direction that makes each terit easy to locate on the map. If you're going to do this, it wouldn't hurt to have a compass rose on the map someplace.

I'd like this only if names are sorted alphabetically in the order the numbers are sorted right now. Otherwise, it'd be annoying to find one of ninety names in the desert.

and by the way, Canadian is the english way, and Canadien is the original French way of spelling it.

anyway, glad we're back on topic

I have to say that's a biased site - cos it's *shock* an american site...

Yeti, rocky the convesation about who spells what correctly is OVER. Off topic or even flame war is their if you guys feel the need to continue this debate. However it should be spelt should be left to wc since both ways are correct it their own countries.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

But that ^^^ is never right anywhere - it should be there.
The word their is used if to refer to something belong to someon ie. It's their problem
This is also different to they're which is a contraction of the words they are

[/rant]
[/threadjacking]

I also like the idea of having directions included with the territory names, but they would have to go after the number not before so they are listed in the right order.
01 (NW) not (NW) 01
This would make more sense anyway, as it's clearer that territory 01 is in the NW not just the first NW territory

I think numbering 1 to 91 continuously is best. Having directions after the number parenthetically, as lighteningbrain suggested, is a good idea. I don't like having two (or four) sets of numbers, though, since it increases the chance for a misdeploy.

like i said before, i like the North 1-46/South 47-91. not just plain 1-91, or North 1-46/South 1-45. combine them to make everyone happy. :D

I think that is what I'll be doing.
It won't be done on this update, though. I'm gonna fix up the map key and make it look a bit nicer.
I'll probably have it posted later tonight.

When wcaclimbing says there's an update "tonight", he really means an update late in the same week. This is because his days last 168 (24 x 7) hours. Days last FOREVER when you're lost in the desert. ;)

lol.
I was considering posting pretty much the same thing before coming in here.

Next time I say "later tonight", it means "later tonight, a few days from now"....
Cause homework and parents are eating my free time on most nights. I don't get nearly as much free time as I expected I would have on most nights.
Good news is that I DID get some work done on it today.
I re-numbered the south desert to be # 46-91. so we have north 1-45 and south 46-91.
I also started some touch-ups on the map key. its already looking quite a bit better. still needs some work, though. Theres not much left to do, It should be posted soon (as in, within a few days  )

Ok!
update tomorrow, I swear.
I've done everything I wanted to for this update.

Here's what I've done so far for this update:
Re-numbered south desert.
Completely re-did all of the colors and background on the map key.
It went from extreme bad to actually kinda good looking (at least, good enough for me to like.) The map key isn't all random colors anymore. now its all greenish text, and looks much better. and now theres a texture behind it and a nice light effect on the background.

You get to see the image sometime tomorrow. I promise.

Are there any problems left to be adressed?
I know about the idea to remove the -3 on the Grand Oasis. I still haven't decided on that one, please post to convince me either way.
other than that, I don't really see that much left to change.

i think the -3 should stay. its a low enough number to be more likely for people to go for it. if the -3 goes it will make it less challenging, and not as fun in my opinion. keep the treasure booby trapped!

V4.0 is here!
Image

This update includes:
South Desert Re-numbered: Now they go from 46-91 to make it easier to use (and less prone to mis-deploys).
I did a HUGE makeover for the map key. Now its all nice and green and pretty. And I changed the font so its easier to read.

Discussion topics:
Should the -3 decay on the Grand Oasis stay or go? It hasn't been decided yet.
Anything else you guys can think of. I can't see much else left to do...

---graphics stamp?---
The requirements for the graphics stamp are:
1) Image must present itself as clear and legible.
2) The aesthetics must be to a presentable foundry standard and must also satisfy the community at large.
3) Cartographers must ,where possible, reduce any disadvantage that can be caused to a colorblind individual.

Number 1 seems complete to me. This is the first time I have been happy with the graphics, so number 2 is pretty close to being done. Number 3 doesn't really matter that much, cause there are no areas that rely on color to play the game well. All of the text on the map is done either lighter or darker to make it contrast from the background, so it will all be visible even if you can't see the color.
I'm just wondering what else I need to do. There haven't been many comments on the graphics lately, and at least I am satisfied with them.
