natty dread wrote:Wasn't there once a facebook game or something that had something like 100 000 players?
it was that facebook risk game that brought my good friend [player]Conchobar[/player] to this site and it was also from watching him play that facebook version that I first learned how to play risk..(I had seen the board game growing up but never knew how it was played)
then another uni friend downloaded "Risk Factions" from Xbox Arcade and after a night of beer & smoke and a few games I was hooked and promptly joined up to this site so I could play some more...now at this point I have to agree with ljex..
ljex wrote:The biggest problem cc faces is that people try to go online to try and play a real time game of risk and just happen to find conquer club. They then sign up and join their 4 games before realizing that these games are not real time at which point they leave and never come back. If cc could find a way to make users stay on the site and play a few more games we would see the community grow as a result.
There are plenty of ways that lack could provide this feature, but i think the easiest way would be to allow first time players to play a few speed games so that they get hooked. You could even make the speed games only be 1 vs 1 classic/6 man classic or stuff like that so people dont just keep making new accounts to get the free initial speed games. and if he is really worried about how this costs him money without immediate profit, he could even throw in short adds between rounds or something like that. I know there is a no advertising policy but i dont really think there would be a huge concern among users if advertising was used in conjunction with an effort to attract new users. Then once their allotted speed games are up if they have enjoyed playing $25 a year doesn't really seem like much even if you are only going to come back once in a while.
it sucked balls that I could not play a game from the moment I joined, if I remember correctly I joined four 4/5 player classic map games and got to take ONE move and that was it for the night, by the next day I could not take it anymore and paid for the premium but I already knew that I was going to stay around for a while...
So I agree there should be some kind of access to speed games for freemiums, maybe like ljex suggest a limited amount or maybe 1 out of the 4 games could be a speed game but CC needs to do something to get those members who join up on a whim to stick around and get hooked
if you look at the scoreboard from p48 - 54 you can see tons of NR's that have all joined up in the last 30 days and there is no surprise that the majority of them have joined 1-4 games and then never bothered to come back and play there turns...Im sure most of them found the site with the intention of playing some online risk and then found out they could not play a real time game and just lost interest
Iv list 8 pages from the scoreboard here...
Scoreboard p54Scoreboard p53Scoreboard p52Scoreboard p51Scoreboard p50Scoreboard p49Scoreboard p48Scoreboard p47thats 800 members with probably more than 60% (around 500) are NR's and I would imagine (I cant be bothered to check them all out) that more then 50% (250+) (I know Im just making these figures up now but if someone else wants to get the exact figures be my guest) of these NR's joined up to play some risk and once they realized that they would either have to pay to play RT or have to come back each day to take a turn decided not to bother....
now even if CC could get 10% of these guys to stick around and get hooked and pay, that would be €625 extra in Lacks pocket....every month...

give them a taste of Real Time.....

ahhh IR1SH ACE, now you are getting to the "Small convenience improvements" I mentioned in my post.
Never happens, never will happen. They work at trench warfare and expect that to grow the site and make us all happy , while doing a circle jerk admin congratz to themselves.

I agree, except that I would change "Risk" by "Strategy". Risk might be at the foundation of this game, but it has the potential to go way beyond Risk.
This statement also points the evidence. There is no single reason, but a group of them. The way to keep people is by allowing them to renew their experience from time to time and/or to find the setting that best fits them. New play modes and more XML are two of the important things to do that really will make a difference.
I also agree with Natty that all those past updates previous to Trench were the ice on the cake, but wihtout a cake they make not much sense.
And look what I found in the trench thread:
ask me2 wrote:At first I saw this and said "No way!", but I'm really loving it now, it's all new strategy and tactics. Thank you Lack for finally imputing something useful!
Which sort of backups the idea that previous updates were uninteresting.

I run around 40 games at a time. I don't want to commit to more for fear I will miss turns or be a burden on my clanmates, so if I have completed my turns and have extra time, I read and post in the forums. It is a secondary form of entertainment on this site.
Some people find the forums more entertaining (or used to) than the gaming aspect. Unfortunately, the forums have deteriorated rapidly over the past few years, and I believe that is one of the major reasons people have left. Idi Admin has banned some of the funniest posters and the entertainment value fell off drastically. Many complained to no avail. Well, Idi Admin decided that perma-bans weren't the answer so changed the ban system penalties but refuses to allow the great posters back.

Andy's release of the largest risk tournament stated 20,000
I miss the good ole days--the comradely with a bunch of us, the true enjoyment of this site. Not sure if CC has done anything to deter things. I just think it is like the world today--everyone needs something new and exciting.
I still think CC is the best site to play risk, but for myself I am played out for the most part.

Everytime a well known high street shop goes out of business in England, I've noticed that the business people they interview on the news, point out that the internet has killed off the main part of the shops income.
So, it's fairly obvious that the internet is killing off this Conquer Club business.
er, wait,
I got that wrong at the end.
I think I had it the wrong way round. Yes, I did have it the wrong way round,
clears throat.
So, It's fairly obvious that the High Street shops are killing off this conquer club business.
In high street's up and down the country, little shops are opening up allowing people from town a chance to get together and get out of the rain and stop heating their homes with really expensive gas and electricity and play risk together.
They have given up with the random dice and gone out to play with real dice they trust and can see.
and in time
Radio will kill the video star. You mark my words.

I like the idea of 1 speed game per 24 hours for new recruits. Not only does it get them into the gameplay they are looking for immediately, it also encourages them to buy premium.

Yes it's declining..the reason unrealistic drops. You can't choose your drops and some games are over before you start. Now that means boring to me. Singles especially suffers from this and team games well the dice determine this now. Strategy is no longer part of this site, just ranching. It's becoming so boring and predictable that many of the longer outstanding members are leaving. I'm going non premium soon. Will take on my commitments for starting games, ICL and for my clan but won't be competing once my premium is gone..and don't any of you buy me premium cause I won't use it.
