Yeah I think it's best to keep it as simple as possible.

i tried to simplifiy the legend even further...what do you think DIM??
Should by editing a little bit the legemd appears to be looking better

it's still very large and all the icons make it a bit odd. i don't know what to say.

here is how i'd really want the map to be like.
what do you think?
this one really makes you feel like a merchant and i think the legend is very clear.

thats quite a good idea......u would have to scroll down but you dont need to be looking at the legend every minute....
I dont like water as a resource....i prefer the cow or something similar

cow + sugar cane does not give you rum

no opinions on the new idea?

I have liked this map since I saw it.
Whatever it takes to get people to understand the legend!
Cheers,

Change the keys around so that the resource/products key is next to the illustrations.
Don't see the need for the word miscellaneous in there either, get rid of it.
Yeah the ideas good, I'm not sure if it's going to be any more or less confusing to people though.

I dont get the third rule, how do you transport a product, and for that matter, whats a product?

*changed the legend around
*took out miscellaneous word
*made the icons more visible

actually it's really simple.
you are a merchant and conquer 2 resources (see the resource legend)
those resources can be sold to the factory.
let's say you have water and sugar cane. simply transport them (in order to transport something you need to own the source and the destination) to a factory that makes rum. now you have 2 resources and a factory that give you +2. but you can become a better merchant. take that rum to the market and sell it. so transport the rum (conquer a market) and you get another +2 for a total of +4. but the best merchants don't settle for local markets they like to expand. so transport that rum to a market on another continent. how? own a market and 2 connecting harbours between those continents. now u get an extra +1.

try putting the legend at the top of the map instead of the bottom. and i think it needs more explanation- i had no idea how the bonuses worked just from looking at the map.
edit:
also, dye needs a better icon
and sorry- but with the amount of information that has to be constantly processed on this map, i think the font is still way too distracting.

the legend on top?? that's ugly
what didn't you understand from the legend?
tell me the exact problem and i'll fix it.
what could i put for dye? i need suggestions.
i thought the font was agreed to be readable. but if others have the same problem i guess it can be changed.

Um, I think that I now kind of understand how your map works. But that is only because of the paragraph you wrote describing the process. I really don't think this is a playable map because of its extreme complexity. You can't possibly explain how it works to players without an accompanying paragraph, which cannot be placed on the game board. I really think you should think of some way to simplify and streamline your concept.

Rubbish!
There is acres of space above the legend for an explanatory line or 3!
Keep it up DiM, not all war is only about land!

ok. i camouflaged the instruction in the form of a story. it sort of gives you the right feeling while it also introduces you to the gaming aspects.
here you go.

i inserted an explanation on how transportation works. normally i would not have added this but considering that this is the first map that's about being a merchant i think it needs it. probably if this idea catches and more maps will be made, people will already know the basic functioning and explaining how the transportation works won't be necessary. it's like having to include this text in the current maps: "to conquer a country you must win dice rolls against your opponent" it's a usefull info and clears confusion for people that never played risk but since everybody knows it it is not included.

I'll have to rewrite the XML for this... but I'll hang fire for now until the idea's are finalised... I like the new 3 step process though - that works nice...

In the legend, which I think the position and layout of is fine, you probably don't need 'factory/product' just 'product' would be sufficient as there are no factories just the final products.

yep there's no point in rushing until everything is set.

i put factories to better explain the logical steps resource > factory (which makes a product) > market
here's an update. corrected spelling issues moved the title and signature.

PS "Design by DiM, Logic by yeti_c" would work better I think?

i didn't understand one bit of what you just said

sorry must have been half dead but what i tried to say was dont use the explanation on page 17ish as it is too long the one you had before was better. I believe that the explanation on page 17ish would create noob comments not understanding the wording. I hope this is more coherent

yep it makes sense now but as you can see the legend changed.
here's the update yeti_c:
