I no longer do either. I made it to colonel, stayed there and can make it again easily if I want to, so I feel no need to maintain colonel the whole time. The knowledge that I can is good enough for me. :)

however, I do get to major every so often to join some 2000+ games. will get up to colonel if anyone starts a batch of 2500+ ones.

i think i'm a little better than my rank, like if i was constantly a lieutenant that would be the right score... but i only play 1v1s... so who knows?

I've consistently hovered around 1000-1200 points over the course of 3 years, so, hm, I it must be a good measure of my skill, as much as I wish it wasn't!

Scores go up and down. Egos however remain fairly consistent :P

Oh, you are way off here. Ive seen ego's inflate very nicely from time to time. Luckilly, I am completely immune to that weakness.

...nope.

My rank is based on my luck, not skill...>_>

I could probably be higher...but I get a streak of unluckiness, then lucky which makes up for the unluckiness, pushing me slightly higher each time.

I think.

Btw, you're not the first one to ask this type of question, but its a fun discussion to have now and then. Your point about types of games makes perfect sense. You may be a colonel in std seq esc games, and a captain in doubles games. However, some people may not be able to make colonel in any style of play, so being able to does say that you are skilled at something, better than some others. As for ass doodle, when you play games that are very much up to chance, then you're rank tends to move closer to those you play with often. There is some skill in ass doodle, but there is a lot of chance, so anyone colonel or above, no matter how good at that setting, will usually move down very fast.

One final note. People who are good at one style usually tend to have some decent ability at others, after all there are some similarities between each style. So someone who plays like a colonel in std seq esc games, is not likely to play like a cook in dubs, at worst you would think a high striper or an Lt. There are exceptions, but this has been my experience. Also, you usually notice a difference in game play between people of different ranks, (i.e. higher ranks do generally play better regardless of what game type you are playing), although again there are exceptions.

Well I guess I've rambled long enough : )

George

Edit: One note, some top players have started medals hunting, so occasionally now you will see someone who is really good with a low rank. Like if you see OSU as a captain or Lt. this means nothing.

P.S. Ok I couldn't end without mentioning one more thing. Most good players in any style are captain or above most of the time. You don't catch too many stripers who are skilled, unless they're doing a lot of ass doodle. Anyways, major and above the difference in skill tends to level off somewhat.

Nice post George ^^^^

Interesting results from the survey....

Do you think that YOUR rank is a good measure of your skill?

Yes - 35%
No, my rank should be higher - 59%
No, my rank is too high - 6%

I am sure we would see a similar result if we could rate driving skill...
Whenever we get a bunch of people to go to a track, they mostly all think they are better than they are...
It's kinda funny when they realize later that I lapped them (hehehee)
But with the CC scoreboard, such reality can be easily overlooked :P

For me... I've never selected a game with the purpose of gaining easy points, quite the opposite, i want tough competition but am only interested in 6p std seq esc on classic or similar map.... so my score tends to be what it is, therefore, i answered Yes.

How rank I am depends more on my vocabulary and the time of my last shower than anything else. Thus, it takes little skill to be rank, just time and patience -- and maybe a little salty sex.

Having neither clickable maps nor scripts, I invariably lose in the speed/freestyle games.

If I were to stick with only sequential (even casual/freestyle seems a bit wild), my rank would probably hover around upper sgt or lower lt.

I have _never_ won in speed/freestyle. They're a blast though.

My rank is way too low. I should be 'Deity' or Demi-God at the very least.

I just map ranked myself, and if I only played 4,5,6,7 and 8 player games I'd be a brigadier. That is with any settings and only a 28% win rate.

If I only played 1v1 I'd be at the bottom of the last page on the scoreboard. With any settings and a 49% win rate.

Looks like I'm giving up 1v1

My rank varies a lot, I like to join a lot of games on maps I've never played before, so in essence, no it does not reflect my skill.

Rank is linked to score and score is dependent upon how many games you win. When you play lots of games on the same map with the same settings that you know you can win time and again. That just means you're successful not skilled.

yeah that's why skilled players don't have to be high ranked...

My rank is a perfect measure of how good I am at getting a high rank at CC.
This counts for anybody who is trying to get a high rank.
