Maybe have twelve continents, one for each animal. Each animal continent is then divided into the years it covers.

Maybe we could do a bonus for each animal and a bonus if you have the same element for every animal?

yeah i was kind of thinking along the same lines. we could set it up where you can get continent type bonuses in a variety of ways, not simply by holding a contiguous piece of land. For example, having all of one animal would be a 6 army bonus, while having all of one element would be a 3 army bonus. As an alternate plan i was thinking of maybe 6 continents of ten countries each, where each continent was a decade (1970's, 1980's etc.) and then it would be more of a varied collection of which animals were in each decade, and you could get bonuses for owning a decade as well. This also gives us a continent for each player, and takes some of the uniformity out of things.
Another idea I had was utilizing the relationships between the signs as a way of organizing the map. You know how on every place mat in the chinese restaraunt, if you read "snake" it will tell you at then end "most compatible with rooster and cow, avoid the pig" well we could use that for our topography i.e. snake countries will never adjoin pig countries, but will have more connections with rooster and cows.

Good ideas. Not sure which 1s would be the best but I can think of alternate ways of getting bonuses:
animal bonus (controls each element of animal)-3
Element bonus (controls same element with each animal)-3
mixed element bonus-3 +1 if happens in multiple ways.
All of these are just ideas. We still have a lot of work to do.

Maritovw is the one working on the Caribbean map, and as far as I know he's on hiatus at the moment. He hasn't had anything to do with the Zodiac map discussions at any rate. Perhaps we should branch off into a new thread?

I think it might be important to get a rough map before we can branch out into another thread. but anyways, I like the idea you proposed about the yin-yang symbol in the middle. Maybe we can use that center ground as a way certain continents can reach each other and incorporate a certain way this happens? I might be getting a little complicated but if it worked it could be good.

I agree, after I posted that I realized we would go nowhere without some kind of rough sketch to start with. I have several ideas, but like I posted earlier I'm going to be out of town for several weeks soon and won't be able to do anything about it. The yin-yang is still workable, and would certainly be visually pleasing and in keeping with the theme, but personally I'd like to avoid anything completely circular and balanced as I think that doesn't lend itself to interesting gameplay. What's more balanced than a yin-yang, that's what the damn thing stands for
Another idea I've had is placing the terretories into an animal shape, for example the ubiquitous Chinese dragon. For example, there could be 7 countries in a wing, 5 in a leg, 12 in the torso etc. These could be the continents. I know it's a bit disconnected from the original idea, especailly considering that the dragon is just one of the 12 animals, but ultimately it may be a more fun to play map than something round. I'm not married to either approach though, and I'm real excited to put something together visually as soon as I get back from my travels. Feel free to start without me if inspiration "strikes" Strike Wolf!

Yes I considered the animal image concept. The snakes easy enough but a couple of the others might be hard considering that we have to create the shape and make it visually appealing.

Seeing that 73% say yes, I'll start on one.
Hell why stop at 60 territories.....

You want to help us work on this Chinese Zodiac 1. And the reason I want 60 is that you can pick any number of players without any neutral territories left over. We'd have to go to 120 to do that again and that's just a little over the top at least for me.

well, Im gonna try making a map. It will be my first time so I don't know how long it will take. Probably a while seeing as I don't have too much free time. Or at least not as much as people think.

how about a stergate like map where you can have every teritory attack any other teritory.
It would have the posibility for almost infinate number of teritories

Trying to stay with in the 60 territories... I was thinking a square dungeon map with acouple well placed barricades.
The chess map that is in another thread would work great, it is 64 squares, so have a chess peice or two on the map (or knocked over) for drama bringing the total to 60 territories.
The zodiac sounds great, and I will play it.. but I'm trying to keep ideas flowing...
Anyone familiar with the level Chess board from Star Trek?
That could be intresting.

I thought about doing a dungeon 1 for a while over the summer but I saw Jota's Dungeon of Draknor and decided no one would want 2 dungeon maps, unless they varied significantly. I also thought about something along the lines of a labrynth like the 1 the minotaur was in but never did anything.

The thing with large maps is that they tend to lead to longer games.. good thing or bad. But what about an old world map like pangea or gondwanaland??

well, the bigger the better. Why not have any map?

As far as old world I am looking into a Silk road/ old world map, not quite what you were thinking, but it'll be great when I can get it going. I am currently working on a periodic table map because of the problems with finding an image to base the old world map on.

Actually that's half the reason I want a map like this. I want a map with 60 territories that isn't like the NA map, because really that is not my favorite map by a long shot.

I like longer games as well.. especially with the random country select on this site, it gives time to actually use more strategy instead of just luck.
And having a select few countries worth 1 by themselves draws out games and makes very interresting twists.
One more idea on maps, thought deviously hard to put together would be a halo map. Very long and very thin, but possibilities.
