... Was Obama referencing Pailin with the pig comment? Maybe yes, probably no. But he damned well should have known better, and known how it would be taken. The crowd took it the way the Republicans took i as well, (but they were Dems, so it was cheering and laughter).
... Fire that writer. But still, his using the phrase shows a lack of judgement, ill-intended or no.
... Then again, BHO is a mean SOB sometimes. He once got away with flipping Hillary the bird on live television, again to immense applause.
... Either way, fire that writer.

...wasn't someone saying a while back about how what annoyed them was the focus of the media and politicians on one phrase....
Shame on them. We'd never get carried away about something like that on CC....

Yeah, but I actually think he knew that. Obama is not stupid and probably realised how the republicans would act on it but figured he could make a point about it.
The crowd took it the way the Republicans took i as well, (but they were Dems, so it was cheering and laughter).
Yeah, but f*ck the crowd. I don't judge politicians on who is voting for them.

Only if he didn't intend to make a point about it. I'm not sure it was the best idea, but I know he wouldn't try it without realising the consequences. This is the man who out-witted all the other democrats, something which is far harder to do than beating all the other republicans. Not that democratic voters aren't stupid, but they're often higher educated so you have to spin your bullshit more elaborately to win.
There is a reason the democratic primary lasted longer, it's because both Hillary and Obama were smart, well-educated politicians. Sealing the republican vote was far easier, as McCain had to deal with a guy who kept saying 9/11, a guy who was a fucking mormon (since religions matters in the US it's not that hard to win there) and a sort of crazy pastor.

That's not very open minded when talking about issues where your base says you ought to have an open mind to allow.
You are only one part of a nation of beliefs, don't think yours matters more than 51%
Ah, but see, unlike most issues (abortion is a good example) those against gay marriage have no good arguments other than "Bible says". That doesn't (nah, it does, shouldn't) fly in the political arena. Gay marriage is the rare type of issue that I can definitively say I am right on.

OK then, get rid of marriage tax incentives altogether. What's true for gay couples is true for straight ones. What you can't do is say "you can marry but you can't, it's a slight burden to the taxpayer".

Back to the first question of this thread: A parliamentary system would fix all of this. Both canidates have fundamentally the same positions on issues as their party platform does. Everyone was talking about real issues until the names were added to the parties.

The Cola man summed it up in the first post. Only a bunch of morons would take part in this sad carnival we call an election. Both of the candidates are self serving wankers who answer to the powers that be, and not to the Amerikan people. Anyone who takes the election seriously has a decidedly minus I.Q.

Or you could call McCain a skin head in a crowd of ex-marines, and go call Obama a skin head in a group of municipal workers.
And clearly you are not looking at the facts about McCain's records or Sara Palin's. McCain has been kicked around so badly by his party in the past, I don't think you can say he's beholden to the powers that be. Those powers that be didn't even pony up enough money for him to have a campaign office in Iowa I believe.

Facts? Heh heh - what's your favorite flavor of Kool-Aid? If you're stoopid enough to believe McCain is free from the powers that be, you're too stoopid to spot the obviously rhetorical question (and the rhetorical answer is of course grape). Let me guess - you also think George Jr. is a great leader - har - nailed that one didn't i?
McCain kicked around? First time i heard that sob story * * wipes tear from eye * * I see he's really hyping up the hearts and flowers on the POW thing too - goes over big with the flag wavers, but some of us vets are finding it redundant and embarrassing by now - some of us learned from our mistakes, and some tried to parlay them into a political career.
Like i said, anyone who takes either of the two candidate wankers seriously is a few fries short of a happy meal. Go figure.

You exaggerate. They are not that shallow. There are plenty of other reality shows they care about too. I'd name some if I could tell 'em apart.

The problem with American politics is that we bailed out England from the big Dubya Dubya Aye Aye.
Also, it's all France's fault somehow. Generally, everything is France's is fault, but this time it's really true.

Versailles Treaty. It was a real sore point for any German, especially radicals like Hitler. One of the restrictions, the 100,000 man standing army (not counting state police and local militias), forced them to develop the use of mechanized infantry that, when coupled with tanks and aircover, formed the basis of blitzkrieg. It all kind of avalanched from there.
