The fat lady was humming backstage most of Steve Irwin's life and she has finally sung.

I'm gonna quote myself on that one.

I always thought he would die because of a crocodile because he was around them so much, but a stingray is an insult to die for the Croc hunter... Crikey

Wow one thread hendy is tolerable in..
the irony is that before he died he said "if the stingray stings me with this barb here i'll die instantly"
then the stingray stung him with the barb.

No way he accually said that. Stingray stings are rarely fatal. The only reason they think he died was because it peirced his heart.
Bozo was right...Steve, Elvis and Tupac are all probably chillin' with JFK

Latest news is he actually pulled the barb out of his chest before collapsing.
He was tough as nails that bloke......a great Australian......almost irreplacable......RIP Steve

Wonder if that was the cause? When you are impaled by something I believe you are not supposed to take it out (causing loss of blood). Tragic nonetheless.

I think the question for me is, why did he for so long?
Eventually if you want this kind of thing to happen, it will.
Your guardian angel is only good for limited amount of protection. Steve's limit was pretty high I'd say.

i think the cause was being stabbed in the heart by a massive poisonous fish.

No, the cause of all death is the heart stops beating. The question remains, why did his heart stop beating? Stingrays rarely cause death in humans from "poison". If it pierced his heart and he pulled it out , it would leave a hole in his heart causing him to bleed to death. Maybe it wouldn't of mattered if he had left the barb in, but rule of thumb is if you are impaled do not remove the object yourself. First Aid 101.

Wow Jay you have amazed me.
I think that not only do stingrays rarely kill people with the poison, they rarely pierce people hearts also.
I suspect not knowing what has been peirced, it was sub concious response to grab the barb, likely still attatched to the stingray and pull it out.
He may not have been thinking back to the first aid course where they discussed leaving a stingray barb in place.

How can you lot judge him on being a nice guy, he may have been a wife beater/rapist.
If you knew him, carry on with the praise, if not, f*ck him, the only impact he had on your life was doing things you wished you could do and you watched him on TV a few times.
Media created a frenzy for this guy, better people have died doing better things and remain forgotten.
My thoughts, love em or hate em.

I liked watching him on TV and stuff, but come on, it was a matter of time.
And also he done great stuff for Aussie conservation, which is admirable.
Just saying that people jumped on this and are forgetting things like all the families of people who are dying around the world for our freedom, there are no posts about these people.
Over 40 soldiers from US/Canada/UK died this week.
