In the long run, we'd actually like to move towards that. But it's early days still. Baby steps and all.
There was a thread
here with a long list on it.
The main reason we added medals was to get people outside their usual comfort zone, get them playing more people at more game types. A lot of the folks in the forum have lots of medals because they are the die-hards of CC but for most players, they give a little incentive to not just focus on one game type to push up the ranks.
And no, I have yet to get any medals (I just can't seem to win any games!) so I'm still in denial

I must admit - I just joined my first Assassin game.
In hindsight - it's the closest this site gives me to a proper Risk mission card and I should of been playing them ages ago.....
I started playing speed games before the medals came out and playing more tourneys means i'm bound to play more maps than my usual classic.
I don't give a shit about points anymore - but I'm sure that the top players won't deviate from their game plan.

The medals are o.k., but the way they're set now there are going to become meaningless with inflation. Are we going to see new "platinum" medals in a few months when everyone's gotten to gold?
One mark of distinction that it would really really really be nice to flag is when a player has never missed a turn. If medals are actually something for players who perform at a level above, why not? Like the perfect attendance card when you were in grade school. It didn't get you anything, and a couple of sick days was never counted against someone... but PERFECT ATTENDANCE.... WHOA... that'd be something remarkable!
Another medal of distinction would be players who take their turns on average within some short turn around time, like 1-2 hours. I'm talking about something other than winning at a lot of speed games and being good at it. I'm talking about distinguishing players who you might like to join games with because they don't - even though its perfectly fine to do it according to the rules - they don't usually take 24 hours to take a turn.

I like the perfect attendance suggestion - for example.
"Did not run out of time nor miss a single turn for 1000 turns in a row." You can change it however you want, I don't know if that would be too easy as turns aren't like games, or too hard, considering I play speed games and most moves are done within the last 10 seconds of a turn. Maybe just have it for not missing a turn, etc.

I lost 4 speed games in a row just trying to see what mine are. Maybe I will never know, I actually need to win a game to see them, so they say

meh-- medals are gauged by how many games you play. doesn't mean a whole lot.
I'm actually shocked that there isn't one for how many posts a player has made or how many times you've missed 10 vs 2 for the win.....

I'm new, you see, so I haven't experianced life without them!

.
However, at the moment the greatest challenge for me is finding a setting a really enjoy. To be perfectly honest, when I do find that setting (shouldn't be too long lol) I doubt I will change too much. Points > Medals, for sure and certain.

I recently joined two doubles games and while I'm not being a "slave" to the thought of an eventual doubles medals, the thought "why not" did cross my mind. Then again I was also influenced by getting some team games so I can get some team rating points, so perhaps the medals weren't all that important in that decision, but I might be more interested in assassin games as a result.
