yeah. it's undoubtedly the best (if not only) way to keep asia. it's downright impossible if some one else has control over aussie.

ive done it many times, i do it when the game is ending.
but
since the game is ending theres no point defending it cuz u get more of a bonus for holding the sheer amount of terits you own rather than the cont, and your opponant would be really weak anyway so you could take thm with/without asia.
so by the time u get it, you dont need it

I don't usualy hold Asia, and usualy if someone does it is at the end of the game when they are about to mop up.

That said I have an anomaly to share with the group...

Blue held it after 4 rounds.

Holding asia is doable if you are in fog and no one is controlling europe or africa.
then, as long as you burn most of your extra bonus armies by attacking everyone, no one will notice that you own asia unless they check the game log.

I've held asia many times mid game. Only in freestyle when my opponents had ended attacks or had no chance of stopping me though.

And firth, freestyle doesn't count, freestyle never counts when it comes to holding continents.

Definitely doable for a turn or two in one on one if you get very lucky in placement. I'm playing a one on one game (in the real world, unfortunately, so there's no proof ) where I'm holding asia and breaking into australia. The other player assumed I'd let Asia go and deployed elsewhere, and I built up a sizable defence. Though, it's not certain whether it's worth all the man power I have spent at the border for the seven bonus, but I'll see what happens.

its not that hard... ive done it about 3 times, all but one time havin aussie, but the guys were idiots... just try to hold Ukraine and Middle east that shortens the number of places you have to defend by 1 so you only have 3 defending territories. If you cant get them, i suggest you forget it.

Done in round 4, had a nice drop and I feel like I'm the only one who tried to break it up, but still.

I've seen it done against me before. None of us were bad players but the guy got some cards and no one really thought he was gonna take asia, even though he was obviously spreading from oceania. Before we knew what was going on he had asia and game over.

I have been playing risk for more than 30 years and anytime someone goes for Asia he is trounced in an instant. In your games as in real life watch how volatile the Middle East is. The Middle East is the great buffer for either Africa or Europe so it is constantly contested.

Bravo- but may I ask why you have 50 armies in Siam? Must be launching an attack on China or India with that big stack........

The first thing you have to be aware of is total army count. When it's your turn to act you're gonna be sitting at 231 vs 180ish. When you're building throughout the game, you're trying to get into the position you're in now. You currently have a 50ish army surplus against your opponents but from the looks of Yellow- you can add another 20ish armies to your lead after he takes Central. It's a good time to close the game out.

You always want to hit the strongest first as the weaker players remaining won't be able to do much ( in flat rate- if it were escalating with the cash at 100, it's a different ballgame).

What I would do and it's a relatively simple play- you can fort the 50 out to Ukraine ( not to protect your borders but to setup a kill shot on Yellow next turn). 130, 47 vs 60ish + 14. Use the 47 to break down the stack ( however he forts) and take the 130 into NA, SA and into Africa killing green afterward ( using the 50 stack in Mid East to help if needed). You should have enough to sweep in 2 rounds.

PS: This turn your best card terr would be Alaska and advance through. A card in Europe would force you to go through East AFrica from Mid East.

i was in a 3 man game where i got dropped completely in asia, and held it in round 2. it was a 1 in a million drop.

To be honest the asia bonus should be split into two separate bonuses, that would spice up the map!

Yuppers. Do it in fog. Where you just build a massive army and wait for the esc bonuses go UPPPPPP. and then quietly take it over. Boom! 7+ a lot = deadly force!
